sweetie i think your have the right idea! i like the idea because they will have a dress they love and they will wear again and again. we've seen this in several weddings now and the girls all look great in their dresses. they all wear something different - from sheaths to full skirts, high neck to bustiers and they all look gorgeous and young and fun looking! nothing staid or old fashioned about them! as for the hot pink shoes! i think the idea is fabulous - it will tie them all together and again look young and hot! i hope you are going to wear hot pink shoes as well! your photos will be spectacular!

wishing you a very very happy wedding!

I'm going to take my bridesmaids dress shopping with me and let them pick out a few dresses they like and they all have to decide on the same one. It doesn't look right when they don't all match.

wonderful idea, while most shades vary in color, black may vary a bit but they all look nice together. This way it let's each person pick what's best for their body type. It's so disturbing when you go to a wedding and see a 300 lb bridesmaid in a skimpy dress that all the other bridesmaids look good in, this way you're letting everyone wear what suits them best!

Yes, tell them what your wedding colors are, BUT have them shop at the SAME bridal shop. Show them and perhaps list the exact names of the colors used by the bridal shop that you specifically are using for your wedding colors. For instance, if you want a bright summery shade of pink, SPECIFY to your bridesmaids that the specific color they should seek to wear is named 'Watermelon' by the bridal shop. That way, they don't come to you with 5 different shades of pink ( 'Salmon', 'Dusty Rose', etc), from 2 different bridal salons and 3 mainstream clothing stores on their dresses. Besides, you don't want to run the risk of one of your bridesmaids wearing something inappropriate (loud prints, extremely revealing, too casual, rhinestones, sequins) for your wedding.

yeah you could get them matching shoes, pink would be cute! and you're right, they could all wear different black dresses and that will look fine. tell them to find a dress by X date and send you a link or picture of what it looks like so you can approve it before they buy it. let them know if you want them to be a certain length or whatnot.

I think its great that you are letting your bridesmaids choose something they can pick for their budget and body type. If you are nervous about giving up control just make sure you go shopping with them to approve their choice. Im sure your bridesmaids would appreciate the feedback anyways .

I love the idea! we got to remember that not all of them have the same body shape so what might look good in one girl might look awful on another one. I am sure they will like this idea a lot! and the pink shoes sounds good to me too!

congrats on the wedding! and i think it would be okay for you to let them pick their own dresses.. as long as they are solid black like you said you want them have you looked at fredericks, they have very cute black dresses maybe you could go with them to okay the dress that each one of them pick!

good luck!

The best idea is to get individual dresses that look best on each body type. Definitely dictate which dresses you want. It's your wedding.

Consider doing separates and pre-selecting several tops and then let the girls each select their own top based on their style and size preferences and needs.

David's has a great website where you can mix and match tops, skirts and sashes or accessories

Good luck

I get weary when I give over control to other people involving my big day. Perhaps give them a few options to choose from and that way they are all the same fabric but everyone is different.

sounds good in theory, but it will never work out the way you think it will....if you give people that much room to play with, who knows what they'll show up in, and these girls are going to be standing up there with you on your most important day, you really want to leave something that big to chance?

Sounds like a great idea to me. You could always all go shopping together so you have input while they are trying things on.
