I already have my dress ordered. I went to look at a dress I found online. It was on the clearance wrack & in my size so I wanted to try it asap. I ended up finding another wonderful dress that was on the clearance wrack too. My wedding isn't till October 1st 2011. But I'm glad I ordered it when I did. They told me not to expect it till early December of 2010. Then by the time I save the money to do the alterations & they get done. & another fitting they said my dress should be done July of 2011. So if I would have waited that I would be pushing it. I think the sooner you get it over & done with the better. Its 1 less thing to worry about.

I also paid $299. for a $799 dress. Make sure you ask to check out the clearance wrack!!!

Always better to be safe than sorry.

Some stores will give you a song and dance about how you have to order your dress at least 8 months in advance, but I don't suggest you do business with these kind of companies anyways.

But keep in mind that if you order a dress size, not one made to your specific measurements, then you will need alterations, which also take time.

You also don't want to wait until the last minute and have any mistakes.

If you do get shafted by some bridal boutique somehow, it is entirely possible to take your dress to a qualified seamstress, or even just have them make you a dress from scratch, within a month of the wedding.

We had a problem with one of my bridesmaid dresses (It was waaaaay too small) and she took it to a seamstress who took it apart, and fixed it within one evening. (and made a matching hand bag for it... )

A full wedding gown would obviously be more complicated, but a month would be more than enough time for a professional to fix it.

You want to look for a dress as soon as possible but if your wedding is a year away I would consider how your weight is going to fluctuate during that year. You don't want to buy your dress now and then next year when you go to put it on it doesn't fit and you'll have to get it altered and that's just a hassle. Picking out the wedding dress it probably the most fun part about the wedding, after the cake of course. Good Luck!

i might flow procuring around for gown types now and attempt stuff on, yet no longer order till probable March or April while you're having the gown shipped. yet once you purchase a gown at a place like David's Bridal then they are going to probable have a gown in inventory already. If a gown isn't in inventory, i might think of there's a pair of 5 month undemanding to have a gown ordered from exceedingly lots everywhere. yet adjustments in the event that they're extensive will take a pair of month, so which you prefer to be as on the threshold of wedding ceremony length as a possibility once you order. i prefer to propose no longer using David's for alteration btw, they're very high priced. My gown replaced into $215 to be hemmed and bustled, even nonetheless it replaced right into a complicated gown w/ 7 layers. My FSIL's greater elementary gown replaced into $a hundred and twenty to be hemmed, taken in on the facets for her ridiculous skinniness, and minor fabrics sewn directly to plunging neckline for modesty at a random purifier place. I do agree that the corset back provides you with greater leeway while lacing it up, so which you will provide or take approximately an 8 pound margin. some attire are even made up of a stretchy fabrics that could help additionally, it truly is way less classic yet i've got seen them.
