Tiffany & Co or Hearts on Fire? (Engagement Ring)?

I'll be blunt. Diamonds are diamonds are diamonds. With Tiffany & Co., you are paying a lot for the name. I recommend you take a photo of the ring you like to a private jeweler and have them make it for you. Even including labor costs, it will be less expensive and the ring will be identical in both look and quality. The Hearts and Arrows collection features a special cut on the diamond that makes it look like there are little hearts and arrows inside the stone when you look down at it in perfect lighting. This is not really important for most people as they don't have the eye to notice it and it isn't obvious in a smaller diamond. Don't bother with this unless you're buying in the 1.0 carat and up range. Independent jewelers are also able to purchase loose stones from the Hearts and Arrows line. You could have your Tiffany style ring made with a Hearts and Arrows center stone in it. I work in the diamond industry and welcome any questions you may have. I can also refer you to vendors for loose stones and settings depending on your area. But, from an insider's perspective: T&Co. is all about the name and the little blue box. Once the ring is on her finger nobody will know it is from Tiffany. It would be more impressive and more cost effective to have the ring made. ''He had it custom made for me'' sounds lovely when women say it. It gives them something to brag about and shows that you put thought and time into the ring....and it saves you money! Also, unless you are investing in diamonds for asset purposes, you don't need a D color flawless 2.0 carat stone with an excellent cut. Stay above SI1-I2 clarity and inspect the stone yourself. A less clear diamond may in fact have less obvious inclusions if they are under a prong or deep at the bottom of a stone. A more clear stone may have fewer number of inclusions, but those they do have may be right across the surface and thus obvious to the naked eye. All diamonds have inclusions so it is important to see your stone and be sure you're happy with where they are located. It's like nature's birthmark. Anything above G-H color is more than acceptable. With a good cut and clarity, you can sometimes fine a gorgeous I color stone. Once it is set and on the hand, it's pretty hard to tell the difference between an F and an I for the average person. Hand cream and everyday wear grime will coat the stone. Don't settle for a lousy cut. This is one place where I will strongly advocate for excellence. A lousy cut can make an otherwise perfect diamond look dull. Size, of course, is up to you and what you can afford. If you're buying anything under a half carat in size, you can be a little more lenient with the 4Cs because they're harder to see. Stick with a good color and a decent cut. If you buy over that, especially if you're getting around 1.0 carat or larger, clarity and cut become even more important. Even though I work in the industry and get disgustingly cheap prices, I wouldn't bother buying a 'perfect' diamond. It's something I want to wear every day, not lock away in a safe. The price difference between a perfect diamond and a perfectly fine diamond is astronomical and the difference in appearance is - to most - unnoticeable.

Tiffany carries a very nice ideal diamond but it is not Super ideal and they are not hearts and arrows. The place you need to go to is Whiteflash. They carry a diamond like hearts on fire, but not the same price tag -- much more reasonably priced AND you get a life time upgrade benefit by buying from them. The name of their diamond is A CUT ABOVE. You can check out various reviews on how people love their diamonds. Here is the website and here is the information you can read about in terms of more detail - http://www.whiteflash.com/about-diamonds/diamond-education/visible-perfection-hearts-and.htm
http://www.whiteflash.com/confidence/ It’s a completely transparent process buying from this online etailer. You will be able to see exactly what you are getting. In terms of nicer - hearts on fire over Tiffany over Whiteflash.com - The performance on the A CUT ABOVE is equal to Hearts on Fire. The performance of the Tiffany diamond is not the same. You will get splashes of light and scintillation out of an A CUT ABOVE or a Hearts on Fire due to the precision cut diamond and the perfect hearts and arrows each one is cut to.
Good Luck!

I'd go with Hearts On Fire. Their diamonds are cut the best out of all other diamonds in the industry and truly look better than any standard diamond I've seen (That's what you'll get at whiteflash, tiffanys, bluenile, etc...)
Good luck and congrats!

It's true, you end up paying more for the name and ultimately you end up with the same product. Buy the cheaper one and use the rest of the money for a nicer wedding or honeymoon.

don't need diamond
ruby is just as precious
emerald and sapphires are all good gemstones
diamonds are so... bland and like everyone else
get black opal if you really want something unique
or jade.
