I own a Platinum diamond ring. The ring was $6,000
I saw the same exact ring in a 14 kt yellow gold for $3,400. I was thinking of exchanging it and getting it rhodium plated. The price difference is huge.

What is best? What would you recommend? Do you think its worth keeping the platinum rather than rhodium plating a ring? I know that i would have to get it re dipped so often so i'm wondering if its worth it.

What do you think?

platinum is a more precious metal than gold, so I would keep your platinum. yes it dulls over time but you can have it polished from time to time. I have a rhodium dipped bracelet and it shines like new but I don't wear it every day like a ring, so I don't know how rhodium would wear for everyday use.

Stick with Platinum.

Platinum is really nice in that it has weight to it. Though it scratches easily, it can be easily polished too without it wearing out.

Over time, Platinum ends up having a patina look to it. Some people actually like that. It depends on personal tastes. But once again, it can be polished up without wear for that bright shiny look.

White gold depends a lot on a person's skin chemistry. If the wearer's skin chemistry is highly acidic, the plating on white gold will be eaten away in time.

Then the ring will have that yellowish look to it. By having it dipped in Rhodium and polished up again, you can have that bright shiny white gold look again. It's more expensive maintenance, though cheaper in the beginning.

Platinum is your best bet. Platinum stays white and will not tarnish. You don’t have to worry about maintenance as much with this metal type as well. Occasionally you will have to polish your ring from scratches, but you will not need to rhodium dip your ring when it yellows over time.

Good Luck!

i personally like platinum, it's the most expensive one however. i don't prefer white or yellow gold, it's not as strong as the others.
