Maybe you could ask at a photography college if any students would be willing to take photos at your wedding. Of course you would still have to pay them but it would be less expensive than a professional.

Have a few family members take their digital cameras also so they can take photos. Then they can email you the photos and you can choose the ones you like to print.

Cameras on the tables is a waste- most of the photos turn out to be pretty dodgy and you have to pay to get them all developed.

hiya.

i got married about 2 years ago this coming august.

We had a photographer come to do group photos and was there for the speeches and for a cake cutting picture. This is not considered the full evening so its abit cheaper.

Paid photographer-

Its excellent having real good quality pictures, and really worth it in the long term.

Our photographer did his work part time so he was cheaper. those that have to make a living on it charge a lot more. Ask to see a portfolio of their work so you know what to expect.

Try to get the copyright too, so then you can reproduce any extra photos afterwards at a normal price and on your terms.

Cameras on tables-

I have heard alot that although cameras on the tables are a real fun idea, often the pictures are random and dont come out very well. They can be expensive too.

It could work if you left clear notes on the tables with the cameras, giving the guests helpful ideas:

* take a picture of everyone at the table

* take a picture of each kind of meal/course

* take a random picture including set items: flowers on table, table decorations or something

Also tell them if they need to use the flash.

Hope this wasnt to long and helps give you ideas!

My mom found us a photographer that cost $550 (I know, probably a LITTLE out of your spending zone!) but the guy does a pre-wedding photo shoot, then he arrives a few hours before the ceremony to get shots, and stays all the way until the end of the reception. A few years later, when we get prego, he does free belly shots!

Maybe you can find something similar? That way, you won't have to be worrying about someone taking good pictures, it will all be taken care of. I think the disposable cameras are a fun idea, but only if you have someone running around with a digital camera.

The whole disposable camera thing sounds good in theory but in reality you are going to end up with pic's of the following

finger on the lens

the food

the back of peoples heads

some one passed out and my two personal faves

some girls will get drunk and shoot down her shirt

many many pennies

We ended up hiring a photographer. and he does very good work for a good price. You could try at the university's and see if any one in the photo department would do it at a better rat if you do not want the cost of a pro.

As a wedding Photographer I have come across this issue before. My recommendation would always be get a photographer. That said they need not cost a lot. If your budget doesnt allow for a proffessional, someone just starting out at a college will more than likely produce better results than your friends with disposable cameras. Go to a local college and ask if a couple of people might like to do it. More than likely the lecturer will be happy to suggest a couple of people who would enjoy the experience. It may well be free or at least very cheap. have a look at my website for ideas www.envisagephotography.co.uk

You do not need to hire a professional photographer. I have taken a lot of great photos because I have a digital camera with a lot of digital memory and I get right up close to people (unless they're eating) and I take lots of pictures. One reason why I think I am a good photographer, aside from having a good camera and charged batteries, and backup batteries, is I delete shots immediately that don't look great. I walk around the room looking for kids interacting with adults, I ask people questions that I think will get them to smile, laugh, joke around with me, then I wait for the smile and take the picture. If you don't have a digital camera, get one, even if you have to put this expense on a credit card. It will come in handy for many years to come...

I upload all my pics to shutterfly.com. It's free and you can easily invite your guests to see the pictures. They can enjoy them on their computer as a slideshow, order photo albums, set the whole slide show to music using power point or have shutterfly set the pictures to music selections that they offer.

I dislike the idea of having cameras on every table but I do like giving disposable cameras to people who have some talent for taking pictures. But then you have to process those pics from film ($$$) and there's no guarantee you'll have anything worth keeping. Maybe you can find someone on craigslist who would shoot your reception for a donation to his favorite charity. Heck, I would.

Kids, IMHO, will disappoint you every time if they gain access to cameras that are within easy reach. Kids should remain in front of the camera. Just my two cents...

hire a professional for an hour or two, that shouldn't cost much. clients of mine who have had disposable cameras on the tables found that, 1 people would take them home 2 out of 36 shots about 5-10 would be printable, 3 people who've been drinking think it's funny to waste them. 4 total waste of money.

hire a pro or even semi-pro, the reception is easy to shoot!

We're having a few disposable cameras, but mainly having people take their own photos, and then asking them to post us a CD of the images. That way we'll hopefully end up with around 1000 photos to choose from. We're also asking a couple of our friends to be our photographers though, and of course they will be with us all day, so we will have good quality ones of the reception too.

For my wedding, i want at least a few professional photographs of the start of the reception but after that just put cameras on the tables, think its the easiest way

I just gave my camera to my dad and asked him to take as many pics as he wanted to (he was the best person for the task as he takes a good photo). I got some really good ones. Plus loads of people had cameras anyway - one relative was also quite handy with a camera and took some really good pics both of the reception and wedding. I got some copies of good ones from thier pics as well as my own ones.

I thought about disposables, but I know some people who haven't got the idea of them and take them away themselves! Plus, as I figured most people take thier own cameras, they wouldn't want to feel all they were doing was photography and not having fun!

I think I would just ask a friend or family member who you know takes a reasonably good photo to use your camera and get as many as they can - you could also discuss with them about any special pics you may want, such as group pics or whatever.

I hired 2 photogs to do our pictures and they didnt turn out half as cute as the ones my mother took with our digital camera!

Take some with a personal camera and take them to get prints and put your name on them ,and add boreders. They'll look cute and are cost effective!

And cameras on tables is a scam! They're expensive and most of the exposures dont get used anyway.

Firstly you only put one camera on each guest table so your only looking at 10-12 cameras. Second you can have them developed on disc only that way you can look at them on your computer and then decide which photos you want printed at your leisure.

We put a disposable camera on each table & got them developed in Boots who gave us a discount

my sister put disposable cameras on all the guests tables they were snapping away all night and then she picked out all her favourite photos and didn't have to spend hundreds of pounds
