Question:
Self-made invitations?

My fiance and I are trying to save some money on our wedding and invitations to the wedding and reception can be VERY expensive, not to mention sending them out! My question is, is there a way to make your own creative invitations (printing them on the computer, buying your own supplies to make them look nice), that won't look cheesy or cheap? I want them to look beautiful and professional, but without the cost. I need about 150 invitations. Thanks in advance!

Well first I would browse on the internet to get an idea of what you would like to do. Google wedding invitation images and start there. I am making my own invitations as well. Start with an idea and them before you begin making anything I would suggest that you find envelopes that will fit. This is where I ran into issues. I am making scroll invitations and my first idea was to send them in jewelry like boxes. Well problem there is I couldn't find an envelope to fit any of the boxes that were nice enough to send invitations in. The envelopes ended up being too big and postage would have been through the roof. So whereever you start make sure your biggest piece will fit in an envelope that you can buy in coordinating colors/texture. THis is the place I bought all my paper, envelopes, seals, cardstock. http://www.paperandmore.com/

THey have everything to coordinate your colors and matching envelopes and seals. They also have petal cards. This place is very inexpensive and the shipping isn't high either. Just 3.99. I think scrapbook stores are more expensive especially when you have to buy so enough to make 150 invites. FYI- Microsoft online has templates to create your invitations, rsvp's, thank you's and so on. That's where I created mine. Microsoft Publisher is what they open in. If you need anything more you can email me and I can help with ideas and the how to. I would really suggest paperandmore.com for your supplies. Congrats and good luck

Honestly? Don't Put The List In The Cards Because It Just Makes U Seem Ur Inviting Them So They Buy U Things..No Offence. Family And Friends Normally Talk About The Wedding Gifts So I Doubt U'll Be Getting Loads Of Toasters. I Would Let People Make Their Own Choices Im Sure Ull Get Everything On Ur List Without Having To Ask Ppl. (: Congratulations On Ur Wedding x

Hi. Yes, there is a way to make them! Go to any scrapbook store for materials.....paper, ribbon, etc.

ALSO.....you can buy beautiful boxed sets of invitations at stores likes Michaels, Hobby Lobby, Target, Office Max, Walmart. There are many beautiful ones to choose from. You get everything you need including envelopes. These come in a set of 50, and they run about $25-$30. I know at Michaels you can get them with a 40% off coupon so that would really save. (I used to work there.) If there is a Michaels by you....go in and look them over. Ask the cashier for a coupon. (You can only buy 1 item per coupon)....but bring a friend or two and then you will have your 150 invites!

You can get invitation kits at Staples. I would do some pricing online first though because if you want something elegant but simple which is what you'll find at Staples, sometimes you can find them cheaper online. Plus you'll just have normal printing unless you stamp each one and use embossing powder to get the same look as a typical invitation. Other than buying the its, I wouldn't do it because you'll need the invitation, tissue paper, reception card, rsvp card and envelope that fits it and the outer envelope. It would look cheasy and cheap if you tried to go away from the kit. Once you add everything up that you would need to try to make your own, it would more than likely be more expensive than getting a nice elegant and simple invitation online or a kit from Staples. Even with the kit, they'll know they aren't professionally done because you'll be missing the outer envelope because the kits only have one envelope and it will be computer printed with computer ink instead of engraved or raised printing.

My dear by the time you buy the proper materials and take the time to attempt to make your own invitiations you could purchase some less expensive professional invitations to send out. Even if you have the talent to make them look really nice it is going to cost you time and money to do this. You only get married once so why be tacky. You do not have to get the most expensive ones in the catalog or you could go to a Hallmark store and find some nice printed invitations that you could use.

We're making ours too, as we're on a low budget. Luckily they're things you can make while watching TV, and if you're ogranised, you can print them off a month or so in advance, so you're not in a rush. Alternatively, you can ask your bridesmaids to come over for a girly night, and make them together. They don't need to look cheap, and the good thing is you can make them to your taste without worrying about the high prices of the printing.

Here's our plans:

* We're buying A6 (A5 folded in half) card from a local stationer. They sell matching envelopes in a variety of colours. We haven't chosen a colour yet, but either black, cream or red (our colourscheme).

* We have typed our text, using the font 'Monotype Corsiva'. We're intending to print them and cut to size, gluing only the spine of the paper to the inside spine of the card, so it looks like the professional style of inlay.

* I have a friend who is both a photographer and artist. She is taking a photograph of us for the front, and then she will sketch it. We will then scan it and print them off.

* We will mount the sketch on borders, before sticking to the front of the card.

* Our RSVPs will be sent inside the invitations, and these will be very similar.

* We are buying wax too, to make wax seal effects on the envelopes. I watched a wedding show where they made the seal stamps from potatos, carving out your initials or a heart or something with a knife. Very cheap, and effective. You can buy the wax for the seal from www.confetti.com

I hope this helped. Good luck!

You can buy stuff at places like office max to make the invitations, I scrapbook and my sister in law uses rubber stamps to make cards and we make a lot of cards/ invitations for things, we made really neat ones for my nieces pirate themed birthday. It just depends on how creative you want to be.

Yup. Just go to the craft store and pick out some scrapbooking papers and heavy cardstock that fit your color scheme if you want them super personalized. Another option is to buy the ones in the boxes and just tweak them a little bit. Kinkos will print them for you relatively cheaply and it saves a huge headache.

We are ordering ours from https://www.invitationpaper.com and taking them to the printers. It will cost us about 1.20 each for a custom colored petal fold style invitation.

yeah you can find lots of nice looking ones in stores like ac moore and michaels, walmart too in the craft area.

if you want to get the full package of wedding invites, envelopes, rsvp post cards (saves you a lot), thank you cards and evelopes, registry cards, reception cards etc...

i can give you the email for the lady making mine.

she's a wiz and really not expensive.

i got 75 invites, envelopes, rsvps post cards, thank you scroll/favors, thank you cards and evelopes and registry cards for under $100.

she's using a picture i found on all my stationary. she lets you pick your wording and what you want ink wise.

she can use any image you want or you can use hers. she's great at working with any theme you can think of.

email me for her info. it ends up being cheaper than store bought when you think about alllllll you get with her.

Actually if you have a pc and agood printer its very easy fun and cheap and they wont look cheesy or cheap. You can also check in the yahoo or in the google websites that they have premade wedding invitations and take some ideas or you can improvise.

honestly, making them yourself can be more expensive than buying them, especially if you take a few bridesmaid with you to buy materials. You should check in to small invitation stores that have specials or will offer discounts

you can find tons of stuff on the Internet for making cards and invitations,,,

all the big stationers have lovely paper suitable,,, coloured,,textured,,, etc.

just tap in card making on your search engine,,, the choice is staggering.

before you decide on a design or size of card,,,check out the availability of envelope sizes to match,,,

a nice touch would be the same colour and texture of envelope to match the paper,,,,,,

make 151 invitations,,,,, you forgot mine

My mother printed our invitations and they were beautiful! We purchased boxes of blank invitations (they were actually on Clearance at the Walmart wedding section) and she patiently printed them. It took time, but they were great, saved tons of money, and I received tons of complements from people who had no clue they were done at home!!!

Some of my friends went to the local scrapbook store and bought some supplies and created them there. Get a bunch of friends together and do it one day.
