Question:
How much did you spend on invitations for your wedding?

Including everything that goes into them like response cards and reception cards. How many invitations did you order?

I found one that I love but I don't think the price is worth spending on invitations, so I was just wondering what others spent, on average. We're having a formal wedding and need to order about 150 invites.

If anyone could suggest a good site to order from, that'd be great too - thank you!

Ours are black and white embossed ones from Carlson Craft.

All in all it will cost about $300 for 100 of the invitation, pocket, and a reception card. We are going to do the other cards (note and information) ourselves. Love the invite, though. They don't do orders online I don't believe but have a great selection.

I ordered 175 invitations. I got the pocket invitations. Mine comes with 3 cards which go in the pocket (directions, reception, RSVP), RSVP envelope that they addressed for us, the actual invitation and a diamond shape piece with my name and my fiance's name to go on the front of the invitation. It was around $800 for all of it. The only thing is that we have to assemble it ourselves. They cut all the papers to size, do the embossing/printing, provide the proper glue, etc. I figured for the price (which is the cheapest I found) I could handle putting it together. I didn't want to make my own because I don't have the time to do it and I wanted to make sure each one of them were cut evenly. I'm very happy with what I got. It's exactly what I wanted.

I ordered 125 invites with 125 thank you cards (so the font would match) no response cards or reception cards (we're having a cake reception- no need for them) and it was $200 from theamericanwedding.com. They were beautiful, but took about 7 hours to completely do. Oh, and they were a perfect square, so postage ran me $60 (for the 80 invites I ended up sending). But it was worth it =)

we are looking at about 100 invitations. We are also having a formal wedding (black tie optional) - we just finalized our invites today, actually. We are using William Arther: http://www.williamarthur.com/

Our complete set for 100 came to about $1700 (invites, all response, accommodation cards, etc). These invites are a higher quality than most, and do a great way of expressing that the event is formal (thicker card stock, available letterpress, etc). Their designs range from simple, to classic, to unique as well.

Crane is another good company, but they are currently not taking any more invitation orders due to being overbooked printing-wise, so their books have been removed by the corporate office from most stationary stores.

You might want to take a look at the Do-It-Yourself sets at Michael's. Some of them looked very formal, and they're only about $30 for a set of 50 that includes things like response cards. You just need to print them up on your computer, but if you do it properly there's no way for anybody to tell you didn't order them from some place else. That's what we did.

You can order really affordable custom invitations from http://www.bjoyfulinvitations.com so if you love the invitations you found you can have similar ones made, possibly for a more affordable price.

These are also some other invitation sites that are really great:

I made my own. I bought them and then printed them out along with the response cards. I didn't spend much at all and the invitations fit us just fine and we didn't go broke doing it. The only person who will keep the invite besides you will maybe be your parents. so remember all the money u spend goes in the trash.

For invitations i got mine for free from my wedding planner, but according to them they got it dirt cheap from Malaysia, if you want just drop me an email i'll pass the contact to you. Mine was a big wedding i invited about 1300 people (chinese wedding) i will have to spend bout 300 bucks on my wedding card if i didnt get it free. So is consider dirt cheap

I got mine from David's Bridal, and spent almost $300, for a wedding that included 100 guests. I wish I hadn't done that, because we ended up eloping, so all that money and paper was wasted. I would suggest getting some that are nice, but not really elaborate. That is one area that you could cut your budget a little and they will still be nice.

I actually bought them today. My fiance is a technical designer & works @ our church. I write & take photography etc... we are creating our own.

I happened to go into Michaels today & they had the "do it yourself kits" which i like the precut paper & envelopes etc included already.

The ones I loved were... omg.. on clearance! i about fainted!!!! $4.99 for a pack of 50!! that's the invitations, envelopes, reply cards & reply envelopes.

I bought 3 boxes. The only 3 of that style there was! We're not fancy type folks. He will be printing them off his special printer @ work after we design them.

So for 150 invites, we paid roughly $16.00!

Now... stamps.... :-/

I checked the clearance rack at Walmart and picked up my invitations on there. I got very simple, plain ones that you print yourself. Then I got ribbon, pearls and other accessories to embellish them with.

I let a friend see them and she had no idea that I made them myself, and they only cost me 87 CENTS EACH!!! Including response cards! I really recommend doing it this way. However, it does take more time.

good luck and congratulations!

They're expensive, so try to really keep them very simple and inexpensive. Focus your money on the cake, decorations and flowers. I was very lucky. I had a day wedding. My flowers & cake were free . I got my invitations made in Mexico, and paid $30.00 for 100 invitations. The salon was free and very formal. My wedding mermaid wedding dress was $100.00. I got married at the only Private Country Club in town, music was free and my food that was originally $30.00 per person, I got it for $10.00 per person and had a Cash Bar. Good Luck!

We spent about $450, but ours were letterpress and we got them at cost since our friend owns her own letterpress company. They would have been about double that price otherwise.
