Question:
Wedding theme suggestions?

Yes, many of you think wedding themes are tacky, please don't answer my question with a hateful rant...
My fiance and I aren't into worrying about proper ettiquette and what we're "supposed" to do for our wedding. Being the tacky individuals that we are, and since we really don't have any particular plans set in place, I've been thinking more and more about putting on a themed event. The only possible downfall is that I already have my dress, I love and adore it, and only bought it so soon because I found it at a local consignment shop for a good price. Obviously our style of dress will have to fit in with the theme if we do decide to go with one, so I really want my dress to work into whatever theme we may choose.
This is my dress:

Any theme ideas that my dress may be suitable for? I'm sure I could always come up with some interesting accessories if need be, so suggest away!
Thanks so much!!

I agree with Old Hollywood - it's called Grace - so be Grace Kelly - go with the classic 50's glamour... Your man can Price Rainer, or Fred Astire, be put your girls in tea length dresses and men in classic tuxedos and do Oscars and stuff like that.

Ok with that dress... I can only possibly see one theme...

-Vintage Hollywood Glamor-

Your dress- beautiful. Classic. Glamorous.

This is what I'm seeing:

I'm seeing glitz... women wear cocktail dresses and are dressed to the nines. Men, suits, tuxes, whatever. They look good. I think if you choose this theme you should include it in your invitation... maybe people will buy vintage dresses and rock red lips.

The flowers:

When I think of this theme... I would do a TON of roses. If it is too expensive to have your florist do this..

www.fiftyflowers.com

They have a package available for 209 dollars you will receive 200 roses. If you bought two packages youd have 400 roses for centerpieces. I would keep it real simple. Just roses. To bring in the glitz, you may place some crystal stems in the vases along with the roses. Good colors for the flowers would be red or white... maybe pink or a luxe lavender. It's up to you. You could also put old fashioned light bulbs on the tables, you know, the type they used to use in the cameras. Think the scene from the aviator when Leonardo Dicaprio is escorting Gwen stefanie down the red carpet.

There is so much you could do with theme. Cigars, crystals, accessories for yourself.

The sky is the limit.

I plan on doing a theme for my wedding and I don't think it's tacky at all, as long as it is done well! And that dress is really beautiful...very lovely choice. When I look at it I think of Hollywood glamour...but I could also see you doing a Southern theme....maybe carry a parasol (you'd be a southern belle) and have some nice southern traditions built into the wedding...that might work. This link has some good ideas for that theme: http://www.myweddingfavors.com/theme-weddings-article.html

You could also do a modern chic wedding, like NYC style....your dress is very nice for any theme and I'm sure you're wedding will be awesome. Congrats!

I don't think your attire has to match your theme. I work at a restaurant that does weddings. There have been plenty of weddings with a theme, but the bride and groom didn't gear every single aspect of the wedding toward the theme. Just pick a theme you love, something that is relevant to the two of you, and go with that. I knew a guy who took his wife to a local ice cream parlor for their first date, so they had a dessert reception and hired the ice cream parlor to "cater" it. They had ice cream cones and a build your own sundae bar.

A few years ago there was a couple who were getting into the wedding video business, so they did a movie theme. They had friends and co-workers lay down tracks for the cameras and the place looked like a movie set. They named their tables after their favorite romantic movies and gave out movie gift certificates as favors.

Another couple loved coffee. They gave out little sample size bags of coffee as favors and their cake had a mocha filling and icing.

Themes for weddings can be very tasteful if you don't go overboard and try to match EVERYTHING to the theme.

Yay, for tacky individuals! Yeah, I see so much hate on themed weddings, we're having a themed wedding but the theme is mostly in the flowers, and cake little things like that, we're not performing any skits or requiring people to dress up. Why all the hate?

But umm...yeah, your dress is pretty, I love lace, and you're really lucky to find that dress at a consignment shop, I looked at our local shops and the dresses there were, I dunno from the 80's. I love vintage dresses but the 80's weren't a good decade.

For themes, someone suggested Old Hollywood I agree that one would be great. I think a masquerade theme would also work.

You could get those masks that would be awesome

See cuteness!

They have some nice masks, a lot of expensive ones though. You can find cheaper at places like Party City and other Halloween/Party costume stores. I have this site saved because I love the store and have bought there so much. You could buy really cheap ones and decorate them with glitter, sequins and feathers and give them to guests as favors.

the dress is very beautiful 1st of all, 2nd if theme wedding is what you want, ITS YOUR DAY!!! and dont let others make decisions for you, do what makes you happy. I think with that dress you could do an old hollywood or like a 40's theme, the dress is very classic, something like the ladies would have worn back then of course a little more up to date. I hope this helps good luck and congrats

Well it is a very traditional dress so I think it may be difficult. If you are not opposed to changing or adding things to your dress I think you could actually do a lot as a result of it being very traditional.

Here is a whole site dedicated to themed weddings. Good Luck, have fun! Make your day YOURS.

I've got an idea. How about a "lets get married and throw a great party" theme? I always thought the wedding itself was the theme.

I don't know why but the first thing I thought of when I saw your dress (which is beautiful by the way) was The Phantom of the Opera. You would make a beautiful Christine in that dress.

I really think though that you could go with any theme with a dress like that. It is really classy.

Good luck with your wedding. I'm sure you will make a beautiful bride.

That dress is gorgeous! But, you don't have to fit your theme in with your dress. Feel free to do Old Hollywood Glamour, Asian, or even Moroccan themes for your wedding. Theme weddings, especially Asian ones, can be cheaper too. I was planning on doing an Asian themed one with a regular white wedding dress, then fans for my bridesmaids instead of bouquets, and a sushi bar alongside dinner.

HOw about an old hollywood masquerade ball? You can wear a pretty feathery mask with your dress, and give your guests masks to wear when they arrive. Or phantom of the opera could work too. Breakfast at Tiffany's, American in Paris

Pick a theme that fits you as a couple. My fiance and I had our first date at Busch stadium and we got engaged at Wrigley field. So our overall theme is baseball.....its interesting... BUT since we both love movies so much all of our main songs are coming from significant scenes in movies

Well, "Grace" is such a gorgeous dress. I would suggest a more classy theme. You could do a "Tiffany's & Co" theme. Also, maybe Parisian (French themed).
