Question:
Should I get my engagement ring resized?

I recently got engaged and my ring (which is white gold metal) was too big for me when my fiance proposed (he knew my ring size but I have recently lost weight so neigther of us knew my new size). So a few weeks after getting engaged (I wanted to show my ring off lol!) I got it resized. The lady in the jewelry store had me try on different ones to see what my size was. I liked the way the 5.5 felt and she told me to go with a 5 because there needed to be some resistance. So I agreed and droped it off. A week later, I picked it up and it was prettttty snug going on my finger and I was a little dissapointed because I don't want the ring to appear to squeeze my finger. My fiance reassured me that after the weekend of drinking the swelling of my finger would go down and it would look better. So I believed him and went home. Well, it's been a few weeks now and it seems like every single time I "swell", even a little bit, the ring seems to squeeze my finger. I work out every day and run/walk outside in the humidity so naturally my fingers swell. But I don't want my ring to be tight at some point each and every day. It's loose in the mornings but by the end of the day it's pretty tight. Should I get it resized up a half size? The jewler told me it was bad to keep getting it resized so I'm worried about that and also, is it too soon to resize it? it's been about a month since I last picked it up from resizing. One more thing is that I am trying to lose 20 lbs so what if after my weight loss, the ring is too loose? I don't know what to do! Do any of you experience tightness every day? I would like to be able to keep my ring on regardless of what activity I am doing because to me it's something you should never take off. Except maybe near lakes or rivers. Should I wait till I am at my goal weight to get it resized or will 20 lbs not make that much difference?

It's actually recommended you keep the ring about 1/4 to 1/2 size up because of swelling...like with the heat and humidity in the summer.

Under normal circumstances, i'd recommend that you get it resized.

However, if you're still trying to lose a significant amount of weight, then i would wait because 20 pounds will most likely make a noticeable difference in your fingers. If your ring is too tight to wear, then i suggest investing in a silver or white gold chain and just wear it around your neck for now. Better that then your fingers swelling to the point of needing to cut the ring off. Once you're done losing weight, see where you're at and decide then if you need it resized or not.

Resizing An Engagement Ring

The reason they say not 2 have it resized alot is because they have 2 change the tines around the diamond 2 much of this can make the diamonds fall out. But if your finger hurts have it resized. Your should feel comfortable with it. I dont think half a size will matter 2 much even when u loose the weight. I have lost a lot of weight the last couple months and my ring is loose but its ok it doesn't bother me at all and it has never fallen off. After u get it resized take it in a month later and have it checked if anything is loose they can tighten it back up. Congrats on your engagement!!

I have a pretty vast ring collection and I can tell you that the size of your fingers will change during the course of a day as I can tell by the way my rings fit. They even fit differently in the winter as they do in the summer and with weight gain and or loss as well.

Because you are still reducing your size, I would wait until you reach your goal weight before getting the ring sized again or even if it needs to be sized then as the tightness may go away and be a perfect fit at that time

The jeweler should have really made your ring a 5 1/4 size when you took it in for resizing as the 5 1/2 was too big and the 5 was too small. Live and learn. The next time you have a ring sized, demand on a custom size if that is what will fit you. Kay?

Go to any reputable jeweler in your area that is NOT an outlet in a shopping mall. Real jewelry shops should have their own place in the back to do adjustments, resizing, etc. It shouldn't take longer than a few days if they're doing it in-house. I had mine resized by the shop where my fiance bought the ring; resizing was free. Good luck!

I wouldn't resize it now if you plan on losing 20 lbs. Prior to the first resizing you might have considered one of the metal or plastic ring guards (could have found a metal one in the same color of your ring). You could have even tied a piece of thread on the back side of the band (adjusting for thickness) until you were at a steady weight. Constant resizing can destroy the integrity of your ring.

CONGRATS!! =]

If you don't like how it fits, get it re-sized. It's your engagement ring, your should feel comfortable wearing it, and WANT to wear it all the time :) Just go with 5.5 like you originally wanted...Either that, or lose more weight. Getting it re-sized seems like the better option to me!

Good Luck!

in the sweaty summer your rings will be tight

in the winter they will spin

are they uncomfortable?
