Question:
What colors did you use for your wedding?
2007-06-13 11:45:57 UTC
A comment another user made about everyone using the same colors for their wedding made me wonder. What colors did you use/are you going to use for your wedding? What made you choose those colors? If you could change, would you and what would you choose instead? What were colors you have seen used at weddings? Have there been multiple weddings using the same colors you have attended? I have heard a lot of the regular wedding posters on Yahoo answers mention some of the same colors, so I want to find out what the general consensus is. Just curious! Thanks guys!

My colors: A deep purple, redorange, chocolate brown, touches of white.

I chose them because it was late fall and I wanted colors to fit with the season. both of us love purple and I found out that using touches of white saves alot of money since I don't have to pay extra for colored linens and things. The redorange and brown just came from there.

I would have liked to include some green since its his favorite color but seemed to summer to me and didn't fit well with the harvest decorations

Common colors I see at weddings: black and white, tiffany blue, brown and pink, red

Lately I have seen alot of the above colors which is fine it just seems that the brides who chose them don't realize it is a common color now just like having a candy bar or cupcakes. Too much emphasis is placed on being the first and only to do something. Who cares if it's a trend, if thats what you like then do it. I can't tell you how many I've shot where the bride gets pissed because she says "bet you havn't seen these colors/anything like this before" and I have to keep shut or say "well actually I did one just like it last week"

We are using Blueberry (dark navy), Blackberry (dark purplish), and Raspberry (dark magenta) with orange tiger lily accents and bamboo. The bridesmaids are mostly wearing black and I have a black decorated train. The flowers stick out enough that I didn't need color-coordinated bridesmaid (they are wearing black 'fly away' pants and stylish top). I actually am not a big fan of pastels of any color and wanted something a little more bold for the summer. I had seen a bouquet on-line that actually had berries (fake of course) within the flowers and greenery...I thought it was interesting and ran with it. Everything is turning out just as I planned, I know the colors sound weird together with the orange tiger lilies but they really bring everything together. I have really seen a lot of the same colors at weddings...now the trend seems to be pink and brown or baby blue and brown. I think these are nice but all of my friends are getting married close together and I was forced to be a bit more wild, but the colors have probably been done before. Hopefully it will be worth it in the long run. Good luck with your planning!

I selected four colors that my gals could choose from for their dresses. They unianimously voted for light green. My dress was white with pink beading, so the flowers were pink and green. So I guess those were my colors.

Guests rarely notice the colors, unless they're planning a wedding themselves. Don't sweat it, just a pick a color that looks good on your bridesmaids.

The only color combination that stands out is black and white. I've seen this done so many times, that it lacks all originality in my opinion. That's the only combo that I would consider overdone.

I used red, silver and white. But the red was so hard to match I accented with a lot of pinks and yellows. In the end it turned out beautifully but I have to wonder if I would have caused myself less headache if I had gone with my original plan of shades of dark purple and lavender.

I had a lot of weddings around the same time in my family and without ever discussing it none of us used the same colors. One went with pink, another with sapphire, another with burgandy and forest green, and another with a buttery yellow.

I worked for a long time at a tuxedo place and colors go through phases of popularity, as well as seasonal popularity. And though we saw some repeats, it certainly wasn't to an extent that we saw the same 3, 5 or 10 colors over and over again.

I'm using a Sage Green (though I think its called Grass at Davids Bridal) and a few touches of Expresso Brown.

My flowers are Green, White and Antique Blue Hydrangia and White Pionese with lots of greenery. The men are wearing grey or tan (undecided suits) with green ties. The girls dresses are all different but all in that "Grass" green. My dress is Ivory.

Its a late summer beach wedding in Oregon. I guess you could call is "beach formal".

I think the most popular color combo right now in weddings is tiffanys box blue and brown. I've seen it everwhere. I had originally liked that idea, but didnt like it with our beach background and decided I wanted to do something softer. Black and White weddings seem to be very trendy at the moment (or black white and a color, especially red).

I work in color, I'm an interior design intern and so I deal with it a lot. I'll be curiouse to see what people respond.

Well for my wedding, my husband and I decided to go with our favorite colors, so there were no arguments each one of us would be pleased.

We used pastel blue, pastel green and white.

As far as seeing other's using the same colors, I can't say that I've seen anyone else using our colors. if they do/did I wouldn't mind. I know what my wedding meant.....It meant a lot more than some colors you us for the setting. I mean colors have meanings, but I don't believe anyone has the right to state that "these are our colors and no one else can ever use them" there just colors.

as far as change, I wouldn't change a thing about my wedding, it was perfect we didn't spend lots of money on unuseful things.

My bridesmaids wore royal blue and we used silver as an accent color. They wore silver shoes and jewelry that was silver with clear and blue rhinestones. The bridesmaids carried bouquets of mixed flowers with bright pink as a the primary bouquet color. The main flowers in the bouquets were Stargazer Lilies. I chose the blue because I thought the color was beautiful; it would show up well in the photos; and it looked good on all of my bridesmaids. For flowers I considered yellows and pinks. The florist felt that the pink would show up in the photos better because of all of the goldtones that would already be in the wedding photos in our church. If I could go back, I wouldn't change a thing! I got many compliments on the combinations. They were beautiful!

I've seen many different colors used. I went with what I liked best for the people involved, the photos, and my own personal preference. Best of luck!!

I'm getting married in 16 days!! I can't believe it's happening so fast!! :) I'm getting eager to just get it out of the way!! Lol! It will be beautiful though!!

We are using a variety of colors... Black & White together (lots of polka dot prints and stripes) and Azalea pink (a hot pink, now discontinued at David's Bridal). My bridesmaid's dresses are Azalea. We're doing our tables @ the reception with black and white printed cloths on them and silver bowls with a variety of pink and lime green flowers!! I can't wait to see how it turns out!! We're using silver some and lime green as well!! It's great to have a variety of colors so you're not pinned down to just one or two simple ones.

Good luck with picking your colors, and everything you have left to do with your wedding!! I'm sure you'll make a great decision!! :)

We had lilac, pink, yellow and light teal. Before we even thought of colours, we had gone 'looking' for ideas for bridesmaids' dresses. Well, the girls all fell in love with these beautiful summer dresses, tea-length, full skirt, sweetheart neckline, basque waistline and full skirt, short sleeves, and open back with wide straps crossing over. They were glossy white fabric, with little flowers on them of the aforementioned colours, resembling watercolor painted flowers. So that's where I pulled the colours from. I had a MOH and three bridesmaids, so each woman and her groomsman had 'a colour" - for example, one bridesmaid wore a pink wreath of flowers in her hair, had pink ribbons trailing from her bouquet, and her groomsman matched her (they all wore light grey tuxes) by having a pink bowtie and cummerbund.

It all made for a very beautiful, co-ordinated look! And it was fun to decorate with so many colours.

I've been to scores of weddings, and have seen every colour and colour combination under the sun. What didn't look great was a dark burgundy that looked almost black (and did look black in photos); the red and white fiasco - which just looked nuts; and the latest we were at had the bridesmaids in a champagne colour, which was just really, really boring. Many girls on Answers talk about using chocolate and pink, and I personally think it's just crazy - dull and too much like ice cream.

Prettiest I saw was a wedding in peach, looked really elegant.

I am getting married in August and we are using chocolate brown for the bridesmaids dresses with "baby girl" pink ribbon. I don't know what else to call the pink. When I say baby girl pink everyone knows what I am talking about.

All of the flowers are going to be different shades of pink. My wedding gown is ivory (even though this is my first wedding). There is going to be pink and brown everywhere. I have never seen anyone use my colors either. I don't think I even saw it in any of your answers here.

My wedding is Cream and Apple Green. I have heard of these colors used in weddings, but I have never seen them used.

I chose these colors because our wedding is in a very natural location. We are having an outdoor ceremony and I thought thses colors were the prettiest 'natural' colors I could find, and the dress I have chosen is Ivory lace with a Green Sash.

We had hot pink, gold, & cream. As far as why we chose the colors, my favorite has always been hot pink, plus the cake I wanted looked fabulous with hot pink roses. Gold was a good combo, plus most of the items fabric wise were gold. It was a common color without being too common, so it was easy to find gold items. Alot of the weddings I've been to have used red, one I went to used baby blue & baby pink & I swear I felt like I was at a baby shower. I loved the colors I used, I wouldn't have changed anything.

My wedding colours were red and white. I think that's the popular colour choice right now, i've been to 2 weddings this year and both have red and white, even my friends were planning to have red and white. I wouldn't change anything about my wedding because i loved it, everything was perfect. I think as long as the bride and groom are happy, nothing else matters x

The color you pick for your wedding should showcase the feel and the theme of your wedding. My colors (My wedding is June 29) are red, black and white. It took me a while to think of the perfect colors for me. All around me, people were picking brown and pink, brown and lime green and I just didn't like that combination. I dabbled with red, aqua and pink for a short period of time, but I'm just not a pink girl, so I moved on from there. It took me several months to feel good about my color choice.

I picked red, black and white because we're having our wedding at an old estate and I wanted to utilize black toile prints along with red on white cardstock. I wanted a vintage/classic look and loved what I ended up with.

I think, that the color(s) that you and your fiance decide on, lead you in the direction for the overall theme and mood of the event. It has a great deal to do with your flowers, prints and designs that you choose to incorporate.

Good luck finding the perfect colors - for you!

I got married Dec 04, I chose a Christmas theme since the hall was decorated for the holidays. My bridal party wore red dresses. I used red napkins with a white table cloth and covered the chairs in white with a large red bow around them.

My favors where a antique Christmas Ball in a white box also with a red bow. This is what worked for me. I was very happy with what I picked. Pick a them and go from there. Also consider your bridal party what color would look well on them. Congrats on the wedding.

My wedding colors are cream with a rose pink and dark green. I think it's really going to be pretty-- everything is covered in pink and cream roses and English ivy leaves, and my dress is ivory with tea rose embroidery. I even found some beautiful pearl, rose quartz, and (some green stone!) necklaces for my bridesmaids.

For my wedding, we used buttercup yellow and a light perriwinkle blue. I have seen yellow and blue used before but not the shades. I wouldn't worry about trying to make sure you use colors no one has used before, just go for what you like and want. The other thing when you are choosing colors is making sure you can find bridesmaids dresses and ties and vests all in coordinating colors. Good luck hun!

18 years ago, I wore a blush pink wedding gown and my flower girl's was made from the same color and type fabric. Brides maids wore bluish greenish colored tealength dresses. Men wore penstriped dark grey tuxes. The wedding was in December. We prefered a bluish green to green and red wouldn't work because my wedding gown was pink..

So far, I haven't seen anyone use my colors yet. I am getting married 07-07-07. I chose bright yellow, bright orange, bright green, bright blue, bright pink, and bright purple ( think highlighter colors ) It was easy to find everything I am going to use. My sister said it looks like easter, because thats when we started to find everything and now if you look at all the summer things, they are in that color. I chose those colors because of my flowers- Daisies. (which you can find most anywhere right now in the stores in the premade bouquets) I like bright, it makes me think cheerful. I don't think I would ever change it.

our colors will be purple and green, which are both our favorite colors, but i haven't decided exactly which shades of each yet. i'll decide the actual shades once i go pick out exactly which flowers i'll be using, but i know i want to incorporate a lot of green ivy into the arrangements, so the green will probably be like a kelly or st patrick's day green.

i personally used bright red, white and black. reasoning behind it was my husband works as a firefighter and most of the groomsmen were fireman. it was an april wedding so the colors were "off" with the season, but what i ended up doing was guys black tuxedos and the girls had the red satin dresses with a skinny white satin ribbon around the waist of the dress. all flowers were real. we had roses, i added light pink with the red roses, looked really good. the pics look great, the red brings everything out.

Red, white and black. All the men were in black, my maid of honor wore red with black accents, I wore red shoes and a black sash and my other bridesmaid wore black with red accents.

We chose these colors because red is my favorite color. I was supposed to have a red sash but we couldn't match it. No big deal. Another reason for the color choice is red and white (or crimson and cream, rather) are the colors for the University of Oklahoma, my favorite college football team.
2007-06-13 11:48:50 UTC
I chose Rose/Mauve. My reason was that Since I wore an off white dress and it was a small wedding I we looked at flower girl dresses and the one we liked was white with a mauve sash so thats how the color was chosen

I used hunter green and eggplant. Hunter green is my husband's favorite color and purple of any shade is mine. We thought that the eggplant went best with the hunter green. We used some silver accents to tie them both together. Good luck on your wedding and your marraige!

I used purple and lavendar (girls wore purple) and we all had lavendar flowers. I chose it because I like purple and we loved the bridesmaid dresses.

Went to another wedding where the colors were midnight blue and silver. That was really pretty too.

I did not have a white wedding

Went to one a couple of weeks ago - although the bride was in white - the bridesmaids (6) wore black satin - even the grooms mother and brides mother wore black - the majority of the congregation was also in black outfits and hats

Didn't no if I was at a wake or wedding lol

My dress was ivory & I carried white roses, my bridesmaids wore black gowns & carried red roses. We used silver as an accent color in very tiny touches.

I am very, very simple in my tastes, so I didn't want to get too crazy with things... Black is my favorite color: I think it looks sophisticated, elegant and seasonless. As for my flowers, roses are my favorite, so picking them was easy for me....

I had black bridesmaid dresses with white polka dots on them, they were SOOOO cute, I wish I had bought one! lol! All my flowers were HOT pink....and the black and white polka dot theme carried over onto the cake that was white with black dots and decorated with pink flowers and rhinestone sprays, I had hot pink gerbera daisy topiary balls in black and white polka dot flower pots (my dad said they looked like Dr. Suess...lol!)

So overall, it was hot pink, black and white, but a very cute version of it. Had I not found the polka dot dresses, I was still gonna do black bridesmaid dresses, but have hot pink, purple, and lime green flowers to accent, but I figured I needed to go with one color so it wouldn't be so busy on the patterned dresses.

I wore white! My 'brides-maids" - and I hesitated to call them bridesmaids because we are all in our late 30s! They wore black evening gowns of their own choosing. My groom wore a kilt in his family tartan, and his best man wore a tuxedo with the Masonic tartan vest.. My son wore an basic black watch kilt, (since I didnt want to purchase a kilt for a kid is stil growing and we werent able to rent one in our family tartan) and everyone else went simply 'black tie' and it looked great!

THE COLOR OF MY DRESS IS CHAMPAGNE WITH A RUM SASH! MY BRIDESMAIDS DRESSES ARE LATTE WITH A CHAMPAGNE SASH! I PICKED THE COLOR OF MY DRESS BECAUSE IT MATCHED A PEARL NECKLACE MY AUNT LEFT ME WHEN SHE DIED! I PICKED THE COLOR OF MY BRIDESMAIDS DRESSES BECAUSE THE DRESS ITSELF WAS VERY SIMILAR TO MY DRESS & I LOVED THE COLOR SCHEME! IT LOOKS VERY RICH TOGETHER & AND THE DRESSES COMPLIMENT EACH OTHER! I WOULD NOT CHANGE MY COLORS BECAUSE IT'S ELEGANT & UNIQUE AT THE SAME TIME! THE LAST COUPLE WEDDINGS I HAVE ATTENDED USED ALOT OF REDS, FUSHIAS, PURPLES, & PINKS! IT LOOKED GOOD BUT IT JUST WASN'T ME! OVERALL YOU HAVE TO DECIDE WHAT YOU WANT YOUR WEDDING TO LOOK LIKE! WHAT DO YOU WANT YOUR GUESTS TO THINK OR FEEL WHEN THEY ARRIVE? DO YOU WANT IT TO BE TRENDY, CLASSY, UNIQUE, OR TRADITIONAL? EVERYONE HAS DIFFERENT TASTES! YOU JUST HAVE TO DECIDE WHAT YOU & YOUR FIANCE'S TASTE IS! GOOD lUCK WITH THE PLANNING!
