i need some proposal ideas or hook-ups in proposing to her. im currently deployed and i think that someone should volunteer their ideas or services. Just think of the business aspect of rendering a ring or a romantic vacation spot for a soldier and his true love.

An easy way to find the best engagement ring price (no matter what your budget is), is to use one of the diamond search engines. They check about 10 different retailers' prices on loose diamonds. So, you might want to figure 30% of the total price for the setting, then use a diamond search engine (like http://www.diamondpriceguru.com/ or Pricescope) to find the diamond. You can tell the search engines which shapes she might like, and you can set limits on the price, cut grade, clarity grade, color grade, carat weight (size). They're really helpful.

Any chance you'll be home soon? In person would be most romantic. Otherwise, do you have access to video chat with her? (Some bases do, but most FOB don't, last I heard.) So, it might be cute if you acted it out over the video, holding out (a pretend ring) on video as a friend of yours (or family member of hers) reached "out" of the video screen and slipped the ring onto her finger.

Good luck!

first: good job setting a budget. that's real important.

second: do you know all about the 4 C's? (cut, clarity, color, carat) people value diamonds based off these.. some people value weight more and some people cut.. it's just personal preference really. what i'm getting at is the diamond should be beautiful to you.. so it's hard to tell you what the best is, because i'm not you!

third: while i don't know what you'll find most beautiful, I will say that you should look for diamonds that come with grading reports. GIA is the most trusted lab and their reports will fully document the 4 C's so you'll know what you're buying. it'll also help with insuring the ring down the line since agencies will be able to look at the paperwork from GIA.

fourth: i like the idea of taking her somewhere special to to the both of you (if you can get to see her in person).. like a favorite spot to take walks or hike. i'm trying hard to think of ideas, but that's all i can come up with at the moment.

congratulations though! i hope it all works out as perfectly as possible

You can actually find several nice engagement rings for that price. However, i definitely suggest looking online, since you'll get the same diamond you would at a jeweler, but for significantly cheaper.

I will offer my services on selecting a quality diamond with good specifications that is the largest possible without sacrificing quality, and for the least price. I am diamond certified and have worked in the business for years.

Your best bet is to buy a certified diamond online the markup is 15 percent versus stores 300-400 percent, the quality and selection are better.

Great effort on the other answerer but, Pearls are delicate and not at all suitable for everyday wear in a ring.

The E-rings are all very poor quality with an inclusion clarity meaning it will look very imperfect with lots of visible black spots (carbon deposits). Two of the E-rings the primary diamond is microscopic at 1/5th carat.

As for how to propose, take her out to do something she loves, even if you don't. Also, don't do it on a night she may be expecting it. This will make it more special.
