I just recently got engaged. We are thinking of a march wedding. The reception will be held at night near sunset. The colors I am thinking of are orange and pink because they are our favorite colors. I want more muted colors like a sunset. I do not want my bridesmaids in orange or pink so I am thinking blue for their dresses. any ideas? How do these colors sound together?

this picture is my inspiration

Well if you go with your inspiration photo... I see peach and pink and orang.. and further down, close to the horizon, I seep purple's and lavenders. So you could go with blue dresses that lean toward the purple end. Or go with purple or lavender dresses (not like super dark like eggplant or super bright purples- but those muted, smoky lavender colors).

Or you can go with greens- like sage greens... Could lend to the theme of spring and also think of the green leaves or stems of your peach and pink flowers... Or a neutral earthy tone to complement the peach and pink, like beige or brown or navy. Since it will be closer to the evening, the navy might look very elegant.

Good luck and have fun.

I absolutely love chocolate brown with apple green. As a matter of fact, those were the colors of an August wedding I attended. The bride had huge glass vases on the tables filled with green apples. It was a refreshing change. But, when I think of a spring wedding, chocolate brown does not come to mind. However, it will give you that earthy color vibe you are looking for. I think the pink and green combo is more appropriate for a spring wedding. Do this. Call the florist and see what flowers are in season at the time of your wedding. You will probably be told that the spring bulb flowers such as Tulips, Daffodils, Hyacinths and Lilies are abundant. Which is good, because those are all great choices and will save you a bundle of money. Start your inspiration of color with what is available and the rest will fall into place. Remember, daffodils and tulips come in many varieties and shapes. If you are talking about a wedding for March/April 2011 and if you are having the reception in someones yard, you can plant a boat load of bulbs this fall and allow the grounds to surround the reception with flowers. This is a good idea because the cost is low and it will all be set, right there in the ground well in advance so you just plant and let nature take care of the rest. And, remember, you can pot your own spring bulbs and grow them yourself for the center pieces or place them in key locations at the reception. Now, that would be a perfect garden theme. I know of many earthy colors of flowers, but they are only available in the fall. However, the color chocolate brown goes very well with individual colors of pink, lavendar/purple, yellow, green and blue. So any one of those single colors mixed with brown would be lovely.

That's definitely an inspiring picture :)

Soft pastels will keep with the season of spring/March.

For a sunset theme, I suggest lavender bridesmaid dresses, but if you really want blue, compromise and choose a pale indigo colour.

Golden accents in the flowers and decor should tie it all together as gold is more sophisticated than orange.

Hope this helps, good luck.

If you are wanting muted sunset colors you should go with a pink, lavender or a really pretty orange. I would avoid blues as they will be harder to match with the sunset colors. Are you getting married on the beach?

I would say maybe a soft green, like sage? The orange and pink will really POP next to it... Or a plum purple...

What about champagne or a taupe color? It will pull the golds and warm tones from the pinks and oranges.

what about a nice muted violet color like the end of the sunset. Or orchid.

I would go with the navy/slate color for the bridesmaids. Those are beautiful colors.
