I can help you with this. Depending on when your wedding is, choose a destination that is "out of season". For instance, in Myrtle Beach during the winter you can get a suite-1 bedroom, living room, kitchen, in a hotel with indoor pools, jacuzzis, and all sorts of fun stuff for less than 60 dollars a night. Even during the winter the temps are mild enough to walk on the beach and sight see-the same goes for the panhandle of Florida. So just do the opposite of the norm, beach in the winter, mountains in the summer and you will save a bundle and have a ball. Also you can go on those "tours" that show you time shares and get free or discounted tickets to shows, or free rooms or just cash-just don't buy the timeshare though. Practice saying "no". Learn early to make your own fun. If you take a road trip, choose a food to try in each region. Last trip, my husband and I tried the barbecue in each state we passed through. Another cheap eat is particularly on Fridays and Saturdays look for Fire Depts and churches having fund raisers. You will get the best food in the area for 5.00 to 6.00 each and meet some wonderful people. Have fun and send me a postcard.

When my friend got married, her and her husband took a road trip. They didn't plan anything out, they just got in the car and drove for about 2 weeks.

build a fort out of couch cushions and blankets in your living room and sleep live out of it for a weekend! P.S. -- use your imagination!

My boyfriend and I just rented a chateau in Gatlinburg, Tn. It was amazing! It was secluded, beautiful view of the mountains, and we actually got snow while we were there! We had a cozy home with a loft and beautiful fireplace along with a hot tub overlooking the view. Not to mention all the fun things to do in downtown Gatlinburg. (It was only a 5 minute drive from our secluded little nest. I WAS AMAZED that it only cost $99 per night. It gives you time to cook together, talk, snuggle by the fireplace, and just lay back. If you're interested, I'd be happy to give you the site and name of the chateau that we rented! Congrats on marriage!

My fiance and I are looking at something a little more relaxed, so we're thinking about renting a cabin in in Kentucky/West Virginia/Virginia. Depending on where you live, maybe that could be an option. Will give you guys privacy, and relaxation. :) Good luck finding something that's right for you!

Dominican Republic. It is very cheap and they have great service. They make you feel like you are millionaire! The beaches are great and the hotels are all inclusive.

I think is a great option and maybe for 1,000 you can have four to five days of fun.

what part of the country are you in? If money is tight, don't stress yourself by overspending when you might enjoy something quiet just as well.

consider

1) I think it's a good idea to have a quiet honeymoon and wait a year for a bigger vacation.

2) go off season somewhere for better prices

3) Closer is less expensive than farther.

some of it will depend on how what your price range is? and how important something scenic and romantic might be? what do you consider a dreamy setting? a waterfall? a desert? a stroll through central park? a museum? you can probably visit a beautifully romantic state park and stay somewhere inexpensive depending on where you live

we made a short trip to the beach right after we got married. it is only 2 hours away from where we live so it wasn't a big deal. we stayed in a cheap hotel and spend most of our time right at the ocean.

if you make reservations ahead of time, it should be pretty cheap.

really, it doesn't matter where you go or in what kind of hotel you stay in. you will be married and you're gonna be tickled about that the whole time!

good luck!

Camping or cruising will probably give you the best bang for your buck.

If you shop wisely and in advance, you can get a great deal on a cruise. On a cruise the price you pay includes everything except alcohol, or special activities. Celebrity is one of the best lines, but more $$. For best middle of the road try Royal Caribbean, Princess, or Norwegian. Check out the ship reviews and stuff before you book, though, on sites like cruisemates.com.

There are cruises that range in price from as low as $200 per person all the way up to however much you want to spend. Check www.mycruisevalue.com for the best rates.

Anyway, camping is also an inexpensive idea. You could plan your trip in an area you want to visit, and then (go during a time of yr it's good weather) just go from campground to campground. Most sites cost anywhere from $10-$50 a night.

Another trip that would be fun and pretty cheap is to start at the top left corner of NC, and make your way down the west side, going through the mountains, and staying in cabins or hotels along the way. It's a great trip with pretty scenery. If you do it, do Blowing Rock, the Biltmore, Grandfather Mountain, Mitchell Mtn., and Linville Falls.

Something else to consider is Mexico; beautiful beaches and it's pretty cheap to stay and eat there. Cozumel is gorgeous.

You may also want to look into the all-inclusive resorts like Sandals, they have good deals from time to time.

Congrats & good luck!

I know you have a TON of answers, and many are very very good. A lot of people have mentioned the Smokies. I'm not sure where you live, but I went to the Gaitlinburg/Pigeon Forge area for the first time a few years ago with my now-in-laws. It is so pretty there. There is always things to do. Pigeon Forge has outlet malls, shopping and lots of great restaurants. Gaitlinburg is more of a strip-type area--tons of restraurants, shopping, homemade candy stores, etc. There is a lift to take you to the top of a mountain or you can take one of those big 30-passenger cable cars up the hill. There is the Roark Trail (A drive through woodsy area--really pretty), Clingmans dome (where you can hike to the top and have incredible views), Cade's Cove which is another drive through park.

Another great option is a cruise (I know it sounds expensive but it's not really.) If you go to http://www.carnival.com and go to the specials tab (far right side at the top)---You can get 3 night cruise (right now) for less than $300/person (this includes all your meals and your sailing fees, etc.) If you want a drink card, it's $45 a person (it was when I went last April on a 5 day cruise) for unlimited sodas during your trip, shows, etc. Alcohol can get expensive, but there are great shore excursions and you can make the trip even longer if you don't want to fly---have a great road trip from where you live to the port-of-call (the website has all that information and their reps are great!) We had a fabulous time and we had a limited budget too.

Remember--have a great time. There is only 1 real honeymoon. Yahoo! Travel has a lot of good information if you do drive or stay somewhere in the states--hotels, attractions, etc.

Good luck you and CONGRATS!!!! To both of you! :)

A great place to go is Forest Hills Resort in Dahlonega, GA.

They have great honeymoon cabins and there's a great little bavarian village not far from there in Helen, GA. My husband I loved it. They have hot tubs right in your cabin and a "couples only" (no children) romantic restaurant for honeymooners, anniversaries etc. They serve dinner and breakfast there and it's included with your stay. The food is awesome and the surroundings wooded and beautiful. Check out their website. You can even get married there. Best wishes!

P.S. A wedding doesn't have to be large or expensive to be beautiful. I did all my own floral arrangements and had my wedding at home.

P.S.S I also agree with Daisy M. Myrtle Beach is an excellent idea-it's actually where I met my husband! I highly recommend The Seacrest hotel in South Myrtle on Ocean Blvd. She's right about the rooms too. This time of year you can get an ocean view room, w/ kitchen, balcony etc. for around $60 or less per night. Check out Broadway At The Beach- eat at Yamato's, Pizzeria Uno, and the Hardrock then head down the Restaurant row to the Flamingo for the best steak you've ever eaten and have the house dressing on the salad it's the bomb.

Welcome to the club! I'm in the same boat as you. We have a limited amount of money and predicting a small number attendants. I would say look to your city or neighboring areas around you. In these situations it helps to think and live like a tourist, every state and major cities has an official tourism guide. Or you could be spontaneous & romantic - Southwest Airlines always has great last minute deals. Just throw a dart one weekend and GO! Most hotels will upgrade you if you say you're on your honeymoon. Get married and fly the same day and arrive in your wedding dress - you might get some really good deals.

You must come to Dominican Republic, to a Hotel in Bavaro Beach, they are cheap and ask for a honeymoon suite with jacuzzi in it. You can come any time of the year, because it is always summer. Air tickets are cheap cause we are near USA.

Hotels offer room service, and spa.

You can also find adventure here, there are plenty things and excursions to do if you want to see historic places such as the capital Santo Domingo or Ecoturism.

Hotels also offer weding packages very cheap like 7000 or 8000 and they get in charge of everything. And it will be a different weading bringing your hole family to a paradise.

If you are young or young at heart, Orlando is a great place for people on a budget. Disneyworld is expensive but Universal Studios and Islands of adventure have some great package deals and they are really fun places. Take a drive out to kennedy space station. Round trip flights to Orlando are frequently on sale for around $200 round trip and there is so much competition with all the timeshare resorts and hotels, you can get great deals if you know where to look. We got $100 cash just for going to a breakfast timeshare presentation. There is sooo much to see and do in Orlando.

Another idea is a cruise. There are some great values today. I see them for as little as $299 for 3-4 days and $699 for a week from long beach CA or Ft lauderdale, FL. If you know anyone that owns a timeshare ask them if they have flex-times or gettaways that they can share with you. Another thing I use is priceline.com to name your own price. I have only been slightly disapointed once, but all the other times very happy with the hotel. I even use them for rental cars and have rented for as little as $16.00 a day. The key of going on a trip is being flexable and knowing when the value times are. i always have found that October is the best time to take a trip. Do lots of research before you go somewhere. I used to use frommers guide books before the internet. He now has a website. Hope this helps, From a budget traveler.

riving to the Smokey Mountains from New Mexico, is not going to be cheap, the same as driving to Jackson Hole from Pennsylvania, so it really depends on where you're at.

Find some weekend area in your area, what I mean by a weekend area, is a place that some people would normally just go to for a weekend getaway that's within driving distance to where you are.

Here in the St. Louis area we have, 'The Lake of the Ozarks'. Northern Illinois and southern Wisconsin, Iowa have the Wisconsin Dells area or Galena Illinois. Mid South area has the Smokey Mountains, or Tunica. Just find that area you're close enough to drive to but far enough away that it seems like a trip, and go there, and like others have said, if it's off-season, you should be able to get lodging

We have friends who own a cottage on Lake Michigan, and they were kind enough to let us use it for our honeymoon.

A cottage or cabin has several advangtages: by the week, they're generally cheaper than a decent hotel room (except maybe for Motel 6), even if you don't have generous friends. Because you have a kitchen to cook in, you don't have to eat out for every meal (not only expensive, but kind of a pain, too, imho). You have a central base to stash your stuff, then take day trips out from there--we hit an artist's workshop, a national park, the lake, another beach nearby, etc. And you have more room to actually "live"--so it's more comfortable overall.

Plus, you can find cabin rentals all over the place: beach cottages, mountain cabins, etc. very isolated, or near tourist attractions. Like someone else said, maybe choose a place that is off-season. It will be quieter (more private), less expensive, and when you do go out, you'll get more personal attention, since the staff at the restaurant or spa or whatever won't have 8 million other people wanting something.

It really depends what you want to do and where you are. One thing that you could do is stay within your general region but go somewhere that you've always wanted to go but have never gotten to. My husband and I live in Michigan and we really like road trips and active vacations. We decided to go to the upper peninsula of Michigan and go waterfall hunting/hiking. We stayed in a bunch of different places, including a mediocre cabin which we actually loved. It wasn't luxurious, but it had a kitchen and living room and everything so it was like a home away from home, and we saved money by making dinner at the cabin instead of eating out every night! That saves a lot of money! Food is a huge cost when planning a trip. Packing a cooler really does make a huge difference in overall costs.

Going places off-season also really helps as someone else already pointed out. Even on our road trip, we went one week before peak season hit and our hotel rooms or cabin rates were $5-$30 cheaper per night than peak season.

Bed and Breakfasts have become very popular honeymoon destinations. B&B's often have honeymoon getaway specials or all inclusive packages for extended stays. You may not even have to go far away for a great getaway. Many fine B & B's are quite likely within driving distance to your local. The internet is your best search option and Innkeepers generally can offer you many suggestions on interesting things to do in the area.

Good Luck!

Tell everyone that you're going away on a secret trip. Then go home, lock the doors and turn off the phone. Spend your honeymoon alone together in your home. Stock up on your favorite movies and goodies. Order in for meals. Take a tour of your town and do all the things out-of-town visitors do. I bet you won't run into anyone you know at any of those locales. Treat your hometown like you've never been there before. It will feel like you've had a great vacation, without all the travel headaches and things that can go wrong. Plus, with no hotel bills you can really enjoy yourself. Just be sure that no one knows you are home.

I am proud of you for wanting to budget. My husband and I went to Lancaster Pennsylvania We stayed at the Howard Johnson on Lincoln Highway East it had an indoor pool the food was Delicious not pricey home cooked meals peaceful tranquil. We waited to get married so we did not want to be around a lot of people we wanted a certain level of privacy and seclusion We took walks looked in stores met up with friends 1-2 days drove around and enjoyed the fresh air and sunshine among other things:) the leaves turning colors were awesome and it was our first vacation alone without anyone chaperoning us it really was a beautiful time and I hope your vacation is a beautiful time as well:)

Pick 3 places you would like to go and go on the Internet and do research on them.

For us it was a toss between Lancaster, the Adirondack mountains and mount auk point. The later two would have been too cold for us being we got married In October.

Also see what you like to do do you like to shop, swim, fish, sight see, hike and Taylor a honeymoon that would be the most enjoyable to you and your husband Peace e4g

Hi Cass

The weeks and days right before your wedding will be hectic with last minute details and friends and family. I would choose relaxing [while including romantic and adventurous]. My wife was in charge of the wedding and put me in charge of the honeymoon. We were in a similar situation and wanted a smart solution. We found a friend of the family that had a cabin in the Adirondacks. We asked if they would consider it a wedding gift and they were ecstatic. We hiked, swam lost power and had fires at night. There were little problems that we solved together and laid the foundation for a good marriage. What we saved we put towards a home.

I wish you all the best. Saving early puts you ahead in the end.

Camping and hiking in any mountains with nearby rivers and streams. Also, Nashville, TN has relatively inexpensive hotel lodging, is very fun with lots to do, see, and hear. Ashville, NC and Austin, TX are awesome too. The Caribbean can be affordable as well. I hope you two have a lovely time regardless of where and what you find yourselves doing. The important thing is that you enjoy each other's company every moment of your honeymoon. I suggest engaging in enough activities that you're never bored, but also make time to relax.

Depends on how much you have to spend. Travelling abroad is pricey and the US dollar is about 1 to 1.63 to the Euro. So, let's talk Mexico. One of the most romantic and cheaper places to travel is Zihuatenjo, just look up Acapulco and move north west up the coast. The Villas are cheaper than Ixtapa and the locals are very polite. Caution: Most of Mexico is very safe to travel in, however, be on guard that you don't stray too far from tourists sites. Great romantic and private getaway honeymoon without going broke. Good luck and have a great time. Congrats!

We did not have a lot of money for a honeymoon either and we had to make it fairly short since my dh had to get back for his Marine reserve weekend duty.

We live in Ohio so we drove 3 1/2 hours to stay in a cabin in the woods. There was a hottub, a full kitchen, TV and dvd player. We spent most of the week in the cabin. We bought food and made meals together and went out for a couple of them and we also went for a trail ride, we really enjoyed the hottub as well. We had a great time. It was nice and private and not a lot of money.

Consider Tulum, Mexico. It is a beautiful and calm Carribean beach about 2 hours south of Cancún. Flights are cheap to Cancún, and from the airport you can take a car for about $50. The town of Tulum itself if quite ugly, but is the beach that should attract you. It is a Carribean beach with crystal clear blue water and good snorkeling and no large hotels catering to overweight Americans. At one end are some beautiful Mayan ruins on a small hill that overlook the sea. The beach is lined with palm frond huts which go from being really basic to quite tasteful and modern, while still retaining the cabaña on the beach feel. As you go south from the ruins, the accomodations get nicer. Many of the nicer places are eco-lodge type places and are really neat, but still rarely cost mroe than $100/day. I have stayed in terrific cabaña with elecricity, tasteful furnsihings, secure entrances and total privacy for $40/day. At the beach there are opportunities for snorkeling and scuba diving, lounging around and playing pick up soccer games. This is no Cancún, this is a place to feel secluded and to relax. As for food, some of the lodges have quite nice restaurants in them. Other places are more basic but they all share great seafood, which you watch the fisherman take out of the boat and take into the restaurant in the late afternoon. Anyway, worth checking out.

Breezes Puerto Plata in the Dominican Republic is not too expensive and is all inclusive. Almost all the Breezes properties (Brazil, Curacao, Bahamas, Jamaica, and Dominican Republic) run pretty economical for all that you are getting. On my honeymoon I picked an all inclusive to get away from the hotel + food + fun adding up. A vacation is where you are supposed to relax and have no worries - not keep track of every dime!

Key West or New Orleans - both have nice hotels, tons of Night Life and good restaurants.

Depedning how far off the wedding is check if your Visa CArd (or your BAnk's Debit card) offers an option that gives you airline miles or hotel credit. We did that used that card for all wedding expenses - and that was enough to earn one frequent flier mile ticket so we only had to buy one ticket.

Also check Travel Zoo they have great deals.

Also you can often get a last minute cruise very cheap.......... however now you even need a passport for a cruise - those run about $75 each however if you do not have 8 weeks to wait for your passport it almost doubles.

I suggest a cruise assuming you are close to or can get to a port. Cruises can be found for 3, 4, 5, 7 days or longer. To help keep your cost low, you can get an inside cabin.

All of your food (except alcoholic beverages) and entertainment are included in the cost of the cruise. I've been on 9 and am very much looking forward to the next one.

As far as destinations go, there are many many choices. I enjoy the cruise ships so much that the destination is not that important to me.

Good luck and congratulations!!!!!

Austin Texas is a great city, the music capital of Texas, but not cheap. Santa Maria, and Rosarito, on the ocean of The Baha peninsula. Rosarito has nice but not elegant lodging available for a very attractive price, there is a tourist campground there. In Santa Maria, shrimp fishing boats unload their catch there, and members of the crews of these boats offer to the visitors, these huge shrimp available only in kilo weights, but these shrimp are the freshest and best tasting I have ever had pass across my tongue. They go thru the RV parks close to the docks and the shrimp are gone in less than 30 mins. Santa Maria while small has nice lodging available for very reasonable rates. If your looking for beach beauty, tranquility on the beach, excellent food from small restaurants with very interesting menus, many shopping and very reasonable markets, ( Don't buy the clams from the vendors) These clams are collected from clam beds along the beaches, but unless they have built a waste water processing facility, the human waste products are discharged into the ocean, and have a strong potential to be available for the clams to ingest. Anyway, both Rosarita, and Santa Maria are very affordable, for even the most modest of budgets, can be driven to very easily, are romantic, picturesque, colorful, and provide opportunity for many free experiences. These are my suggestions.

Try Belize! You can stay in Belize City, Belize or, as we did, you can stay on Abergris Caye. Here are some lodging options: http://ambergriscaye.com/pages/lodge/lodging.html

A friend and I (we've traveled the world for 30 years - since we were in college) were supposed to go to Grand Caymen 2 years ago and arriving at the airport found our flight was cancelled due to a hurricane. We just decided on the spot to try somewhere new and ended up on this beautiful little Caye in Belize. Was the BEST vacation spot we'd been to. Stayed at a place called El Pescador and had a whole villa to ourself along with 2 salt water pools and a fresh water pool. Seems it was off season and we were the only ones there. The weather was INCREDIBLE and the excursions were more than we could have hoped. When you're not "honeymooning" in your villa, you can go tubing through underwater caves, go zip lining through the jungle in the rainforest (gorgeous birds, orchids, animals in the wild), take a "day on the water" excursion where you catch your own fish, snorkel and pick up your own conch. Your guides will then prepare your food fresh on your own little private island and, at the end of the day deliver you back to El Pescador. If shopping is your thing you can take one of the golf carts and head to town which is an excursion unto itself. You'll pass iguanas, beautiful gardens and villas and maybe an alligator along the lagoon side of the path. once you cross the hand ferry you'll be in San Pedro which has lovely shops and an easy central place from which you can ship any of your purchases.

Just can't say enough good things about this beautiful spot. But, wherever you go, have fun and congratulations on your upcoming wedding! Much happiness to your both!

If you're looking for really cheap, you'll probably need to stay near home. Try going places and doing things that you've never done before, even though they are close by. Sorry, I couldn't be more specific, but everyone's idea of cheap is different and without more detail it's hard to give you concrete ideas.

A great idea is an online honeymoon registry. Your wedding guests can go to the site and pay for a portion of your honeymoon. Just do a general search online for "honeymoon registry". This of course will only work if you haven't registered at stores already. Congrats and good luck!

It's your honeymoon... be honest: you won't see anything but the interior walls of your hotel room, anyway, if you get my drift.

All anyone in my family ever did was drive a half-hour or so down the road--far enough no one would bother them--and stay at a hotel for the weekend. A year later, when they had the time and the money, they took a nice, romantic trip somewhere.

Hey, it seems to work... no divorces in my family yet!

my Husband and i went to the oregon coast for our honeymoon. We lived in washington so it wasn't too bad of a drive. We stayed in a hotel right on the beach. The nice thing was, it had a kitchen in the room. so all we did was spend $60 on groceries for the week. It fed us breakfast, lunch and dinner. We went out to eat one night. It saved us a bundle having the kitchen in the room, so we didn't have to eat out for every meal. So when looking for a place, take that into concideration. Also, we went on the off season so it was only like $90 a night and we were RIGHT on the beach with great views :)

Another option is to go camping. My best friend did and so did my sister. my sister camped from oregon all the way down to california, taking in all the sights along the way.

Just remember, if you go to places durring the off season, it will be a lot more inexpensive :)

Good luck with the wedding!!!

This is a great time of year for flights right now United is having a New Years special. You can go to Maui for 510 a person, then find an inexpensive condo that you can find online for less than 99 a night and are beautiful. Then site see, the beaches are all free. We have a home in Maui, I suggest going to Kannapali beach (voted top 10 beach in the world) then go to Hana and see the 7 sacred pools with amazing waterfalls for only 10 for the day. Then go up to Haleakala crater and take a bike ride down. There are a ton of activities that are less than 50 dollars and you can rent a car out there for 25 a day. E-mail me if you want more info.

Here's an idea. Contact a local resort style hotel to see if they have deals right now for honeymooners. This is their "off' season or down time as they call it and this when deals come out especially because of Valentine's day weekend. Meals might be included and spa treatments as well. I'm in a wedding this year and the groom and bride decided to invite friends and family to go on the honeymoon with them. The amount of their trip will than be evenly divided by the amount of individuals who are going to the honeymoon. in this case there are at least 20 people going and the trip is $1600. So each person will pay an extra $80 bucks to contribute to the trip. Very nice and small contribution. P.S. most attendees are the bridal party and the family. Congrats!!!

I would suggest to look around the area that you live in (in a radius about, oh, y'know.. as close to as far as you want to drive.. hehe). There's bound to be somewhere fun/romantic/what have you in the area that you've never been to but have always wanted to try out. :)

California's a fun option... I moved here 2 years ago, so pretty much everywhere in CA is new to me, and my husband and I ended up going to Monterey Bay for our honeymoon. We found a cool motel/hotel/inn where our room was set up like a little mini cottage, complete with comfy couch, tv, mini kitchen, nice bathroom and a king size bed. Because it was during the peak season, it was about $165 a nite, but still, that isn't bad @ all... We were able to visit Cannery Row and the Fisherman's Wharf (and hit the awesome antique mall...I'm an antique nerd) and go to the Monterey Bay Aquarium. It was a very relaxing honeymoon and the whole thing, including gas and meals and souvenirs, was around $1000.

The northern coast of CA has tons of cool places, too, including the redwoods (which is where I'd love to go for our anniversary this summer:)).

Usually, the longer you book, the less expensive it is per nite, so if you're able to stay for a week or so, then chances are you'll get a better discount.

One last thing, wherever you go, including @ restaurants and shops, be sure to tell them that it's your honeymoon!!! lol.

Sometimes they give you discounts or other freebies because you're newlyweds, and they always are super friendly and tell you congratulations. :)

Good luck on finding the perfect spot for you two and congratulations on your marriage:)

The cheapest way to go is too stay within driving distance of where you are. Air fare can gobble up a lot of money out of your budget real fast. Not knowing where you are (east coast, west coast, middle of the country), it is hard to give you some good specific places. If you live driving distance from a port...taking a cruise is a lovely honeymoon and within your budget.

Believe it or not, Niagara Falls really is a great spot. The sheer amount of water going over the crest of the falls is amazing and it makes you aware of how small you are in the scheme of things. It roars - the falls actually roar to the point where the person next to you cannot hear you yelling. There are alot of other tourist-y places that a great as well. Plenty of wonderful restaurants, and one with a hugely tall, revolving dining room. Think about it!

Santo Domingo may be the capital of the Dominican Republic and the oldest European town in the Americas and in the event that you wish to see one of many UNESCO World Heritage List then, that hotelbye could be the place. Santo Domingo is just a university of cultures and neighborhoods. It's where the sounds of life, domino pieces smacked on tables, backfiring mufflers and horns from disorderly traffic. In the center of the city is the Zona Colonial, where you will discover among the oldest churches and the oldest remaining European. Also, in the Zona Colonial you might find Gazcue, among the city's oldest neighborhoods, full of old Victorian properties and tree-lined streets.

you know what we were going to do? there's this beautiful town about 3 hours from here and there's a pretty resort out there that overlooks a lake. we were going to go there and have an all day spa treatment done for both my husband and i. how relaxing! then the next day we were going to go into the town and shop at the little stores and buy some things for us to remember the trip by. then at night we planned to sit out on the swing they had outside of our room and watch the loons on the lake. ahhhhhhhhh...

haha, we didn't do that, though. we had two kids already when we got married so we took a little trip and went to this waterpark, stayed at a hotel, rented movies and ate take out. it was so fun and better than any trip to the bahamas or hawaii or anything!

My fiancee and I really wanted to go to St Lucia for our honeymoon but flight alone was well over $1500 once you figured hotel and other little expenses the trip was well over $5500 so instead we thought about it and we figured we dont need anything exotic, I proposed to her at Disneyland and we have never been to Disneyworld. We are huge Disney fans (she loves princesses and I love Toys and Bugs! LOL) so I looked it up and we will be honeymooning at Disneyworld for Half of the cost of St Lucia with pretty much everything included. Some people might not like this because they feel it is a place for kids but thats the type of people we are, we are kids at heart and we love getting on rides and having fun together. Especially there since we have never been! Hope this helps!

A few people I know went to the Pocono's in PA. I checked some of the hotels/resorts out on the internet. It looks like a romantic place with fun things to do all year long, skiing, hiking etc. I'm sure it's nothing short of beautiful in the mountains.

My fiance is thinking about Mexico but I'm putting Puerto Rico in his head. Right now it's pretty cheap to go there. Plus you don't need a passport and if you don't know Spanish that's okay, about half speak English (at least that's what one of my Puerto Rican friends tells me). He also tells me it beautiful.

Try camping out in a state away from you, after all it will be different.I realize camping is some what not what a lot of women like to do? But I always enjoy it.It is very romantic sitting by a campfire, with a chilled bottle of wine, or whatever you drink, listening to the sounds of nature. But I hope you live in a warmer climate, so it will be so much more comfortable. After all, it does not matter wheir you go, as long as you and your new hubby are together! Congrats on your nuptials! Many blessed times!

My wife and I have been married for 17 years Neither side attended the marriage ceremony because of either travel difficulties or their opinions of our marriage were not the same as ours,Some said it wouldnt last but a few years! They were all wrong! Once you invite the opinions of the inlaws they automatically think you prefer them over the spouse...We started a tradition following the wedding of doing things that do not involve inlaws at all! inlaws are outlaws nonetheless! Start a new concept or Idea that only the two of you can do and never let that be interrupted !

My boyfriend and I are considering Yellowstone National Park. Depending on how cheap you are looking for you can camp or rent a cabin. If you go off season the cabin are very reasonable. You will get to see many wonderful, natural things, and may even get to hear the wolves sing at night (I find that romantic/ "mystical") Too many people forget the park is even worth going to and you will be helping conservation efforts at the same time

My husband and I took our honeymoon in Washington DC because we didn't have much money. It sounds lame, but it was great, and I can't wait to go back someday! All the museums have free admission and there are lots of historic sites and monuments to see. We took one day and were driving down to Colonial Williamsburg but then ended up stopping at King's Dominion amusement park instead:)

It was a great trip on a very tight budget. All that really mattered was that the two of us were there together.

You could try camping (depending on the time of year/location) but it's a great idea. You could get a cozy cabin by a lake and pack a chest with different foods and wine and have a relaxing evening by the fire or even try hiking, boating, trail walking or visiting cute little country towns nearby. Its a great way to interact with each other in peace and quiet and really enjoy one another's company on a more intimate level :o)

Gatlinburg Tennessee, You can rent a house that overlooks the town of Gatlinburg or just go with a view thats just pure nature and hot tub on deck. The houses have a wide range of prices but there's probably one that just right for your budget. If you don't want an entire house, rooms are available with the same features.

I had some friends who went camping, but they both loved camping so it was enjoyable. I'm not sure it would be my favorite because I'd rather had a hotel room.

A friend of my son's rented a house for 2 weeks because it was less expensive than renting a hotel for 3 nights. What about a cabin, or one of the beach houses that are privately owned by the owners will rent it when they aren't using it?

Try orlando. You can do the 90minute tour at a timeshare and say no, but you can get like 3 day 2 nights in their villas. I just looked a offer up for my bf and I. It was $179 for 3days/2nights and 2 tickets to any park of our choice. the villas have a jacuzzi and they are very luxurious. If your really on a budget I would suggest doing another time share (there are different ones) and get the money to buy food or go somewhere else.

check out the site you might find the one you really want

if you go to hotwire or travel zoo, they have great packages for a couple days, and there honeymoon destinations...that can cost less than 600 for the two of you....or check out southwest....you can fly fo FL. were its warm and stay at a beach hotel....for about 200 you can fly..than you can just find hotel deals. also.....let me tell you....when you are on your honeymoon you spend most of the time in the hotel, so check out all inclusive hotels also, cuz than all the beverages and food is included.

I would say that a travel to your nearby state would be great. I loved Atlanta Georgia. Its outskirts are quaint and beautiful. You might also like Miami or St. Augustine. These two cities are beautifully located on a beach. California and NY are probably more expensive options.

Depends on where your located. I live in PA and a lot of people go to the Poconos. If you dont mind leaving the state you live in, Niagra Falls is popular. My hubby and I were to go to Maine - Acadia National Park but instead went to Virginia Beach, Bush Gardnes and some other places.

You can go to a bed and breakfast somewhere away from where you live.

Find a cheap last second flight to anywhere in Costa Rica. Once you are there stay away from big hotels. Lots of small places to stay that are cheap ($20) and the food is cheap and the people are all about tourism. My wife and I did this for under $1000 for the week including flights.

I would recommend the mountain of NC, but that also depends on where you are located...

Where ever you decide to go, don't forget when you make reservations, let them know you're honeymooning. People will want to please you (in the hope that you'll return). You may get upgraded to a better room at no charge, receive a welcome bottle of champagne, and who knows what else.

Good luck!

I was going to go through the answers to see if you already had this one but there were so many. lol My husband and I were also on a very tight budget so we ended up going on a timeshare trip for our honeymoon. We went to disney. we were there for three days and it only cost us $99 and that included our room and two tickets to a park. We bought our own tickets to another park and we had to listen to the timeshare presentation which included a free breakfast one morning.

Is there a special place, city, hotel you guys love going to? My boyfriend and I love slipping away to Tampa and try to go there 2x a year. If you guys have a special place, or even the first trip you two went on together, I think that would be really special and probably cheaper than a lot of other choices. Congrats and good luck!

My husband and I hung out at an Art Deco Hotel in South Beach. But that was close to where we live. I would suggest researching some areas nearby, as well as researching cool renovated hotels and "locals fav's" restaurants.

Example: If you were in Texas I would say to stay at the Austin Motel -eat at the Texas Blues Cafe and check out the Austin music scene.

Believe me, dollar for dollar you'll never beat a cruise. There are cruises for all types of people.... old, young, couples, singles, with kids, no kids, etc... Get the cheapest room for two. You'll spend very little time there and upgrading is a waste of money. 4 day, 3 night start at about $500 and that includes everything. I suggest you talk to a good travel agent who can show you all your options.

We loved our honeymoon in a quaint bread and breakfast in St. Augustine, FL. We stayed in a honeymoon suite , which gave us the entire top floor of the B&B to ourselves, took ghost tours, carriage rides, had side-by-side massages. We had a lot of fun. We were there for 1 week, and I think for lodging & food, plus all of the other stuff we spent under $1300.

You can do a volunteer vacation. My friend went to New Zealand and volunteered to count kiwis and stayed at a beautiful sea-side site wile scouring the forest for fuzzy, silly-footed, flightless birds. There are lots of agencies you can volunteer with anywhere in the world. I'm sure you can find a more luxurious or labor-light one. Many of the amenities are provided and other expenses are tax-deductible.

Here is a reputable organization, for example:

How about Pigeon Forge/Gatlinburg Tennessee area? The motels are inexpensive in the off season and they also have wonderfully romantic cabins in the woods. You are right next to the Smokey Mountains and in a matter of minutes, you leave civilization behind and are in the peaceful beautiful mountains. Search the internet for honeymoon cabins, I think you will be pleasantly surprised at the price. Go to TripAdvisor.com for real life recommendations from people who have actually stayed in the area and you will learn which places are good and which to avoid.

There are also all-inclusive resorts in the Caribbean like Couples, Beaches and Club Med that have great vacations. Just go to their web sites and check them out.

Why not make it a week long tour down memory lane?

Make a list of everything you have done together that was truly memorable or special to you two and recreate it. Relive your trip to the mountains, your camping trip, your first beach date...stuff like that. You can also try AAA's trip planner. Cruises that are in the off season are always a good idea....you can also buy PACKAGES through travel sites and they usually include your airfare and hotel stay...Try a Bed and Breakfast.....a road trip stuff like that.

If you want more ideas you can always just email me and I can send you more.......

Laughlin, Nevada. Harrahs. Sometimes nice rooms as low as $24 or 28 for river view room. Food along the thirteen casinos moderately priced. River boat. Las Vegas an hour away or so...swim, relax, see reasonable small cabaret shows, dance.

The most value for your money is a cruise. They are all inclusive and you can get cruises now for a very VERY fair price. Depending on the time of year and where you are located, you can take a cruise from a port that is near you. I live in San Diego and there is a Mexican Riviera cruise that leaves here and goes for 8 days/7 nights and docks at Mazatlan, Puerto Vallarta, Cabo San Lucas etc. This cruise is priced at just under $500 per person for much of the year (basic cabin). There are shorter cruises that are beautiful for just under $300 too.

There are cruises that leave from the east coast that enter canada, cruises that leave florida that tour the beautiful bahamas, cruises from northern cali/oregon/washington that tour alaska....ALL of which are beautiful, relaxing and cost effective.

Cruise faires include all meals, activities (not shore excursions that are optional and cost extra), onboard nightlife...everything. Faires do not include alcohol, and gratuities which will be billed you before you disembark.

You can buy cruises at a discount online or directly through their websites.

Virgin Islands. I'm telling you if you go in the right season it's so worth it. IT IS BEAUTIFUL, and not as expensive as you think. Get plane tickets, and motels are not that expensive. You just have to pick one that's near the tourist area. I went to a hotel across the street from the airport and in total paid about $500 for tickets, food, and hotel.

Well, when I got married, my husband and I wanted something that would be just relaxing and where we could spend all our time together. We spent all the money we had on getting the best hotel room nearby(without telling anybody where it was) and we spent all our time in the room. Bed, Jacuzzi, pool, couch, and watching movies together. I wouldn't trade it for all the cruises or road trips in the world!!!

A lot of nice hotels offer "weekend getaway" packages, which (from my experiences) can range anywhere from $250-$1250. For our honeymoon we drove to Winnipeg (about 5 hours from our home) and stayed in a beautiful hotel with a spa, and our entire weekend ended up costing up roughly $500. We had a suite with a beautiful view, amazing food, and were able to go to a Vegas style casino for the night.

GATLINBURG/PIGEON FORGE Tennessee. This is where my hubby & I went, we had the time of our life~~ It's the perfect place to relax after the chaos that is a wedding, and there are great outlets, that even on a budget you can do mega damage shopping at :)

If you don't have that strict of options then why don't you put your honeymoon off for one-year. You can get married but don't go away. Just stay @ home. Then one-year later, you will have a reason to be celebrating your honeymoon; the reason being your 1st Anniversary. Enjoy.

If it was me I would be happy with at least a two week honeymoon in New York in warm temps in a high class hotel. If not that somewhere in Florida for two weeks by a beach in a high class hotel. If not that if it had to be just a week in Hawaii somewhere in a high class hotel. I would be happy with any of the options.

My husband and I went to the Myrtle Beach. Depending on when you go of course would depend on the cost, but it was great. We were out the first night of our honeymoon in this loud family restaurant and he was telling me he wished he'd taken me to some tropical place. Honestly, I loved where we were. It was romantic in it's own way. We didn't want anything expensive either-I was 15 weeks pregnant, we were looking for a house. It was fantastic! Our wedding was beautiful and it was less than $1,000. GL :)

Try Guatemala, Nicaragua (yes, they have beautiful beaches!). Costa Rica, Belize and Panama are getting expensive now, but are bargains relative to the Caribbean.

Argentina should still be relatively cheap.

In Europa, try the Czech republic.

Much of Asia is very cheap. There are beautiful places in Cambodia, Malaysia, the Philippines, parts of Thailand.

In the US -- go camping!

Or volunteer together. With the proper program, you can travel very cheap.

My husband and I went to an all-inclusive resort. We chose Sandals in Jamaica. It cost less than $2000.00, and we got several days in a very nice hotel on the beach, 24-hr meals, snacks, open bar, and access (including transportation) to all of the recreational activities, food, drink, entertainment, beaches and other facilities of each Sandals location in the region. Even though they say tipping is absolutely forbidden, you'll want to bring some extra singles because the staff obviously still expects to be tipped. Check out sandals.com for current prices and options, including a list of all the different tours and recreational activities at each location.

I went to canada, I stayed on the US side because its cheaper, but we got a suite, and traveled over to the canadian side every night. We just walked because the walkway passes over the falls and it is really romantic, we also did picnics instead of going and having lunch at a resturant.

My wife and I were also on a budget so we were very informed on what we bought. To save money and time we did not do favors. Face it there thrown away after that night. Instead we donated $250 dollars to the childrens make a wish foundation. We also didn't go overboard on flowers, reception hall, ect. the hall was all inclusive except DJ not included. If you really look hard there are places out there that are great. So b/c of this we went on a cruise to Hawaii. Not a cheap honeymoon but we could afford it b/c we ddn't go overboard on the wedding. GOOD LUCK AND CONGRATS.

Rent a camper. See the national park of your choice. Or, you could rent a small rustic resort cabin. My favorite is at a place in Ontario, Canada (near Kenora) called Camp Waterfall. The cabins are right on the beautiful Rushing River, which connects to Blindfold Lake and Lake of the Woods. All cabins have a nice view of the falls. The owners are very nice and helpful. You can rent a boat for a reasonable price, and there are many other outdoor adventures available. Their housekeeping cabins are simple, but clean, and very reasonable. You can save money by cooking your own meals. It is a very relaxing place and quite reasonable. Congratulations and good luck!

Find a local hotel with all the ammenities: pool, spa, nice resturants, game room. Staying local will save you money on airfare and car rental. Be a tourist in your own city.

Take a romantic cruise. It's less expensive than travelling by air and taking accommodation, but maybe later on when the two of you can afford it, you can travel to Europe.

you could always just find a sleezy hotel with a mirror on the ceiling... after all you are just married... what do you think people do on the honeymoon... all you need is a place and privacy.

let me guess... you live in the US? if you can, why dont you go to malaysia and relax in the sun (when it's summer, of course!) you and take a ship which is pretty cheap with loads of other tourists. they also provide snorkling equitment/ and you can take a small moter boat with 20 other people to this small island and play in the sand or go for a walk.

well, if you like something historical, you can look for historical places within your state. we were about 2 hour drive to niagra falls and that is where i spent my honeymoon. i recommend that. if your a big camping fans, you can go hiking/camping in the mountains. i hope these ideas help.
2008-01-15 16:12:50 UTC
Well I dont know exactly what your budget is, so I can't tell you exactly where you can go. Since you said "outisde the us" I'm going to guess your budget isnt extremly low, but isnt exactly high. So I think you should go to the baja of california and get a really nice romantic themed room that over looks the ocean. It's really beautiful there, and may fit your budget.

we decided to go to the poconos couples resort.. the room was amazing.. and it ws all inclusive.. had fun and it was a quick 2 hr drive.. gve us time before and after to get out selfves back to normal after the wedding.. then we were able to havethe opportunity to take another one in mexico.. we had a blast.. and a FYI.

most resorts will honor your marriage and consider you newleyweds for up to one year .. meanign you get some upgrades, gifts, special dinners, etc ..
2008-01-16 06:21:42 UTC
do something for nature like planting a tree. then you can go back to it on your 25th anniversary and carve your names in it. but your question suggests that you do have some money or you wouldnt be saying it doesnt matter if its in the US or another country. you know you have to have passports to go to another country and that process is long and cost money to get.

Head off to Vegas. If you are close drive there if not find airplane tickets with a lot of transfers as they usually cost less plus its an adventure traveling 18 hours for a few thousand miles. Haha. Get a hotel on the outskirts of the city because all you'll do there is sleep.
2008-01-15 18:19:52 UTC
Well if you want it to be cheap don't go outside the US, in fact don't even fly. Find some romantic cabin within driving distance that you and your future husband could stay in.

Well the best resort I've been to so far in Montelimar in Nicaragua. It is the best bang for your buck you will ever find. The food is just the absolute best. Everything is included in your stay. It means you can eat as much, drink as much, and do as much as you want. Great shows and a beautiful beach make this the best deal. Check it out. Although it mght be tough if you don't speak spainish. Be sure to get a Bungalow though.

drive over the bridge to canada and take a boat ride in toronto.......or lemington....and your money goes further in that country than it does here.

take I 75 into detroit and cross over in Downtown detroit to windsor by bridge or tunnel....cost is about $2.00 each way and the hotels are about $70.00US a night.

my soon to be hubby and i are pretty much in the same boat as you are. we are looking into ALL INCLUSIVE rates and are looking into arriving/departing mid week apposed to arriving/departing on the weekends. most of the time it depends on when you are traveling, during tourist time its gonna be more expensive. best wishes to you and ur F.H. happy planning and have a good time where ever you go for your honeymoon. =)
