Yes, most brides count their dress, veil, undergarments, garter, shoes and even jewelry as their something new. It's really the easiest one of the four.
Something blue was the hardest for me. I have really heavy legs and didn't want to wear a garter. I made myself an anklet of blue Swarovski crystals, blue seed beads and freshwater pearls.
Borrowed was the second hardest. I bought a pearl choker to wear and figured it would be easy to find someone who had pearl earrings I could borrow. I was WRONG. My sister in law had to go out and buy some pearl earrings for herself and then loan them to me.
Besides the new, old was the easiest for me. I wore a cameo brooch that belonged to my paternal grandmother to my prom back in 1977. My date happened to be the man I married 25 years later, so it had twice the sentimental value!

Sure it can; I think the dress is the "something new" for a lot of people. I think the idea is to leave those 4 things until your wedding day, so that your outfit isn't "complete" until your wedding day. A lot of brides used to leave one stitch un-sewn until the big day, like a superstition against counting your chickens before they're hatched kind of thing.

Yes it can. And if you're going with wedding superstitions, remember never to try on the full dress on before the day of. Leave a stitch unsewn, or leave a part of the outfit off.

It is superstitious, yes, but more importantly, it's something fun for moms to do for their daughters. I ignored all of that stuff, but my mom took great delight in fulfilling them all. Don't worry about it.
Something old: The embroidered bonnet I wore home from the hospital as a baby. (Apparently, that's part of another superstitious thingy.)
Something new: Mom gifted me with a set of pearl earrings and necklace. (I was a low-key bride and hadn't picked any jewelry to go with my simple dress.)
Something borrowed: My mom's garter from her wedding (even though we didn't do the garter toss at mine).
Something blue: She sewed a strip of pale blue lace around the inside hem of the dress, where no one could see.

i did not have a huge wedding ceremony both yet there have been some small issues I forgot. i purchased the aisle runner yet forgot to placed it down and forgot to mark a table for the bridal social gathering. even as hubby and that i sat right down to eat, there wasn't a table obtainable. lol i develop right into a lot happier to bypass back contained in the position the the nutrition develop into reason there develop right into a/c. (wedding ceremony develop into outdoors.) yet another solid theory, is to have some form of tentative agenda for the reception to save issues heading in the right direction. We were so busy we did not understand lots of the failings we neglected til afterwards. because you've been down this street beforehand, you've a particularly solid theory of what to do. best of success to you!!

Yes it can. Most people assume it is, or any jewelry your wearing. Actually a friend of mine joked that she was counting her hair extensions as her something new. haha. (she "techinically" counted her dress, but we always joke it's the extensions).

Of course. Also your veil, your shoes, your sexy new underwear, your hairdo, your fingernail polish, your garter, your jewelry (i.e. your new wedding band....) The options are limitless!
