My best friend is getting married in late March. I am making her wedding Album for her gift. Here is the thing, should I drive ( 4 1/2 hours) to her house when she gets the pictures or would it be rude to ask her to send up the pictures???
Any ideas???

Some things to think about:

1)After the wedding is over, maybe you can coordinate a weekend or an overnight trip where you can take the drive, visit, get the pictures and share with her some of your ideas for a wedding album. If you want the wedding album to be a total surprise, forfeit the first idea.

2)If you do decide to take the first idea and you consider that today is January 20th, you realize that you still have alot of time to organize page layout, colors, find some stickers, stamps, markers, ribbons, etc. I realize that you will not know everything there is to know about the wedding yet since it hasn't happened, but every wedding clearly has a similar layout.

Some ideas for the wedding album. Try to get some random things from alot of people who were involved with or attended the wedding. For example, you might get some pictures from alot of different people and decide which ones would be good for a nice storybook album. You might want to do a brief page at the beginning of the album that gives a little bit of the couple's background...a picture of their houses as they were growing up, pictures with parents and siblings, senior year pictures, baby/toddler pictures, etc., a lock of hair if it is available. Dedicate another section for dating-pictures at various events, silly pictures, engagement picture, etc. Put some pre wedding pictures in there...the girls getting ready with applying makeup, getting hair done, pictures of bride and groom all dressed up with families, etc. Put a copy of the wedding program in the album. See if you can get some of the flower petals to put in various sections of the album. Maybe put another page with "Couples Favorites" and include favorite song(s), hangout spots, dating activities, etc. Last year, I went to a Creative Memories workshop and the consultant was really knowledgable regarding assisting with layout ideas, content ideas, etc. I have also included the website link for Creative Memories http://www.creativememories.com/ so that you can take a look. On the website, you will be able to find consultants in your area based on your zip code and there are ideas on how to set up albums. I'm not suggesting that you order everything that Creative Memories has on their website, but there are alot of really helpful ideas to get you started as well as helpful ideas for making the album durable and long lasting. Hope you have fun with the wedding and with scrapbooking!! :o)

You could wait a couple weeks after she gets amrried and maybe meet somewhere in the middle for the day at a scrapbook store and do it together , most scrapbook stores will let you scrap in the store and use their tools and give you a discount while scrapping and its usually under five dollars a person . Another idea is just making the album minus the pics . I have actually received and given a few like that . Just make all the pages and then you could even buy her a nice set of scrapping pens and maybe some letter stickers that coordinate with things you have used and that way you can give it to her at her wedding and when she gets her pics she can choose what goes in and what not . If shes like any other girl she is not going to want to send her pics any time soon so you could also exchange numbers with other guests at the wedding and ask them to send you their negatives seeing as though they will more than likely have a set developed for themselves and one for her . There are also tond of scrapping sites that show you layout ideas I dont know any off hand though , scrapping stores usually have books that are for specific occasions too so you could probaly check into that and ask while your there for any ideas they may have the girls that work at my local scrap store are always helpful and full of up to date ideas .

That is such a sweet idea! Does she already know you are making the wedding album for her? If her photography package already includes an album, then you might want to take candid shots with your camera on her wedding day and put together a more fun album for her, since she'll already have the formal, professional album. That way you don't have to ask her to send the pix or go get them.

If she already knows you are making the album, and it is going to be THE wedding album, then maybe you could have the photographer send you the pictures. Chances are she's going to have to go through the photographer's proofs and select the prints she wants. She could just instruct him or her to mail the photos to you. If she is going to just get all the photos, then I don't see anything wrong with asking her to select the ones she wants for the album (versus the ones she wants to frame) and mailing you the others.

Either way, again, I think it's such a nice idea. It'd be great of you to collect wedding and relationship memorabilia (e.g., any emails that you and friends exchange in planning her shower or bachelorette party, a bow from a pretty gift package from her shower, an item from one of her and her husband's first dates -- see if he has an old movie ticket stub or something) and incorporate them into the book!
