Our wedding reception is on a tight budget, so instead of using real table linens, we've decided to go with plastic table covering for the tables. Has anyone everyone done this?? How do you "dress up" the plastic table coverings so they don’t look so tacky?

Someone suggested using 6" ribbon down the center of the table to dress it up a bit, but I'm not sure what this will look like. Has anyone ever tried this or have any pictures? I'm desperate for help!

What about using these plastic lace table clothes? They might add a nice touch, and they are inexpensive as well...

Or, you can always add a nice flower arrangement, some candles, flower petals, etc.

My friend went to Walmart and found large round glass bowls for about 1.30 a piece. She bought one for each table, filled it with water and added some floating candles. It really dressed up the table and looked beautiful.

I would suggest looking at places like Michaels, Walmart or even at some online craft stores. Often they have supplies, as well as suggestions, for things that you can do.

If you put a ribbon down the center it will only make a plastic table cloth more promient. Maybe I have the wrong vision in my head but the ones I've seen are shiny and look very cheap. What colors are you using? Could you get some in a different color than white? I bet that would look better.

I think I would have gone to the fabric store and purchased some $1-$2 per yard fabric which would have probably cost not much more than the cheezy plastic. Putting a ribbon down the center of plastic will only emphasize the plastic even more. I don't know what to tell you on this one.

You can do what we did for my parents anniversary party.

We taped the plastic down under the table so none was hanging loose. We then used ribbons taped on the table clothes creating a checker board or grid type of pattern then we topped it off with a lovely center piece. it was lovely and not tacky!

Yes, I did plastic table covers and I don't think they looked tacky. we taped the bottom so there was nothing hanging down and used candles and flowers (silk) and colored rocks as centerpieces and had coasters and favors at each place.

I am using Plastic for my mothers wedding. I don't think it looks tacky at all. I mean sure I wish I could afford real linen for her but I can't. I am just putting my centerpieces with red rose petals scattered around them. I don't think anyone who came to your wedding will even remember that you had plastic instead of linen. as long as you have something else on the table. I am sure that your table will be beautiful.

I'm using plastic tablecovers and covering them with a layer of tulle. It's cheap ($0.99/yard or less) and pretty. Just in case I have trouble getting it to lay flat, I've picked up a roll of double-sided tape so that I can secure it in a few inconspicuous areas.

i am using plastic also. it's not tacky. if you want to do a spin on the ribbon. weave a square mat for your centerpice and put a glass bowl on top with flat marbles on it and float some candles.

use a flat basket weave for the mat. you can use several colors of ribbon or just one. it's up to you

email me if you need how to do that info

I don't think that plastic covers are that tacky. Your centerpieces should cover some of the table. But I found a few ideas on Martha Stewart's site that might help:

Go to the fabric store, go to the bargain bin and buy a couple yards of nice fabric. Make 12 inch table runners, finish the edges, and presto! You can also use glass beads/marble in your wedding colors on the table as well.
