Question:
Jared's Galleria of Jewelerly vs. Kay's Jewelers?

Yesterday my fiance and I went to Jareds and he found the band he wanted. Its Tungsten, and $450. Well, today while searching other places for my band (i'm having issues... blah) I find out that Kays and Jareds are owned by the same company. The exact same ring for his is $199 at Kays.

I called Kays customer service and they said that the jewelery is the same quality, Jared's is just the "high end" and offer different warranties and different vendors use them that dont use Kays. but i dont know if she was just saying that so that we would just Kays over Jareds, ya know?

so my question is, does anyone have any opinions of either? do you know if one is better than the other? i'm not looking for diamonds here, just a white gold band, and his Tungsten band...

suggestions?

Jarreds:

Their clientele target is of higher means, thus:

-You can buy diamonds separetly from the setting

-Better quality diamonds

-More varierty

-Offer branded items (Tah Heuger, Leo Diamonds etc)

-Better service and guarantee plans

Kays

Their clientele niche is of modest means, thus

-They are located are malls

-Rings are sold already setted

-Diamons are of lesser quality and therefore, less expensive

-Limited variety

-Limited guarrantee

Good luck

PS/ Tungsten is Tungsten, so there is no difference on the quality, other than the price. Buy it at Kays.

Jarad's for sure.

We had good service there and they went out of their way to correct a problem. I actually had to end up getting a new ring and choosing a new center-stone and although it was a long process, I am very happy with what I ended up with.

There is nothing wrong with Kays, but Jarad's is a jeweler and has more selection and can customize your ring to you more than a place like Kay's.

Their jeweler is right on the premises and all inspections and repairs are done right there.

When I think of Kay's I think of a mall jewlery store that in no way compares to the quality of a real jeweler. Jarad's and Kay's may have the same parent company, but they are not selling the same stuff.

I was not impressed with Kay's when I went looking for diamond earrings.

BTW- I know you are looking at plain bands and not diamonds, but there is difference in quality in the materials used.

Simple bands with no stones? Definitely go with Kay's.

My ring is from Jared's and we have to take it back every 6 months to get cleaned and inspected for the warranty to be valid. But we're talking diamonds that could be lost if the prongs wear down, etc.

With simple bands just make sure you're getting the same quality of gold and you should be fine. Not much can go wrong with a simple band.

My engagement ring & both or our wedding rings are from Jared's. The service there is exceptional & the staff is always friendly. We got the extended warranty & return the rings every 6months for a cleaning & inspection to keep the warranty valid ~ this is all a free service (as a part of the warranty)

My husband had a *horrible* time finding the right fit for his wedding band ~ he has never worn any type of ring or jewelry before & had a hard time finding a ring that wasn't too tight or too loose. He exchanged his ring (for a different size) 3 or 4 times ~ the staff was always super nice about it, didn't charge us anything or act annoyed (which I'm sure they were!)

Also, my husband's wedding band has 6 small diamonds in it ~ one of them fell out & was lost two separate times ~ but thanks to the warranty, it was replaced free of charge.

I don't think I mentioned, we had all of these troubles but we haven't even been married a year yet! Anyhow, with all of our exchanges, etc. Jared has always been very polite & helpful. And it's not as if we spent a ton of $$$$. Although I don't know the price of my engagement ring, we spent less than $900 total for both of our wedding rings & the warranty on them.

My engagement ring came from Kay jewelers. I found that some of the rings at Jared were very over the top. I just wanted a simple solitaire ring, and Kay had exactly what I wanted. I also found the staff at Jared to be somewhat rude, even snobbish, while we were looking. I am very happy with Kay. I take my ring in every 6 months to get cleaned and inspected. I also got an extended warranty that covers a lot of damages/incidents. I'm very satisfied with my ring and the company..

This is a great question! I was planning on going shopping for my wedding band this weekend and I had no idea that Jared's and Kay's were owned by the same company. I was also wondering about the difference because I found the same ring at both places:

Same thing, right? Anyway, thanks to everyone else who answered this question--it's interesting to hear what different experiences everyone had and how useful that warranty has been!

I have bought at both places and can tell you that the service is better at Jared's and so are the warranty plans. Jared's has superior quality as well. I did not find Kay to be the same quality of jewelry as Jared's.

I know that Kay Jewelers gives their employees commission on what they sell where as Jared does not. You are much less pressured to by at Jared and usually the quality of the rings are better then at Kay.

I think if they are the same ring and the same type of gold. Then one is just higher priced. I would definitly go with the cheaper of the 2 b/c that money could be used other places!
