My something new was my dress. My something old, borrowed and blue is a handkerchief that has been handed down by one of my Great Aunt's to all the women of the family to carry with them on their wedding day. It is a blue handkerchief, I borrowed it for the day and it is old...been around for 75 years. What's neat is that there is a list my Aunt keeps that has the name and date of each woman that has carried it!

It meant the world to me to carry that handkerchief on my wedding day! :)

My somethings were:

Old & Borrowed- my mom's veil

New-my dress and pearl jewlery

Blue, was an anklet that I made with pearls and tiny pale blue glass beads.

We also used things in the wedding that were old and also borrowed: my gandpa's sword from when he was in Japan in WW II (used to cut the cake-it was a wedding with a few military aspects since my husband is in the Army), and old pictures that I got from my grand parents of loved ones both alive and deceased. I used their wedding photos, and both our parents wedding photos to put around the guest book on the table so people had things to look at, plus I loved being able to look back at those old photos.

1. Something Old: My aunt's handkerchief (it covered the blue area too because it had a light blue border)

2 Something New: My wedding attire (dress/veil/shoes)

3. Something Borrowed: My mother's jewelry (necklace, earrings, and bracelet set that looked nice with my wedding dress)

4. Something Blue: my garter Belt was blue and white

Oh, how sweet to honor granny with her kerchief. Why not wear it on your sleeve, and use it to fix your makeup or wipe your tears away. Something new will be everything, new dress, shoes, panties, etc. Borrowed: Well, you can borrow almost anything, but how about borrowing a nice piece of jewelry from mom or one of your aunties. Wear a dangling necklace that has a charm dangling just above your cleavage. And, how about something blue? Well, a blue garter, my dear, is what most of the young brides wear.

Something Old... The "old" must be something which has belonged to a happily married woman. The wearing of such an item insures a lucky transfer of happiness to the new bride and signifies a sense of continuity, tradition and represents the link to the bride's old life and her family. Many brides would wear their mother's wedding gown or family jewelry.

Something New... Signifies hope for the future. The bridal gown can be used here, if it is purchased new - or any other new item purchased as part of the bridal attire.

Something Borrowed... The "borrowed" must be some object of value/significance to guarantee wealth and prosperity in the future. Brides can borrow jewelry or a special handkerchief from a family member or close friend.

Something Blue... The "blue" is symbolic of the heavens and also of true love. It signifies fidelity, purity and love. This is why you see so many garters with blue ribbon or detailing!

Something Old: My grandmother's pearls she wore at her wedding, worn as a bracelet.

Something New: My necklace and chandelier earrings, which were bought mere days before the wedding. My new father-in-law picked them out.

Something borrowed: Two sets of pearl earrings for my other two set of earring holes, one from my new mother-in-law, the other from my fiance's sister, who passed away in October.

Something blue: The trim and corset tie on my dress, and an ankle bracelet made of glass beads, also from my fiance's sister.

I made sure it was all something important to me, that made me think of someone special.

I borrowed the poofy slip that went under my dress from a friend, I sewed a pearl that my mother wore at her wedding onto my dress for something old, and I wore a circlet of flowers that had touches of blue in it. Oh, and my dress was new.

my something old was a pearl necklace from a friend.

something new was my shoes

something borrowed was my dress

something blue was a button off my dad's blazer - i had forgotten the 'something blue' and was quite frightened i had put a hex on the whole deal but we were just ready to walk down the aisle and i was so upset so my dad ripped a button off the sleeve of his blazer and gave it to me. funny, the things you keep, i still have that button in my jewelery box.

I'm getting married in all new things I dont believe in all that superstitious stuff. I don't need someones old dress or garter to bring me luck. My parents have been married for 30 years and they didn't have all that crazy stuff.

People make their relationship work, "not something new, something borrowed, something old"

but if thats what you want go ahead.
