My boyfriend (he hasn't given me the ring yet) went to a wholesaler and got me a gorgeous ring. It's almost a carat. It's .91. We thought it was a g color and i clarity (which we figured would be appraised at around $3700). I was asked was kind of setting I wanted. Knowing the band I tried with the loose stones was a tiffany I was asked did I want a high or a low setting? I said low. But the ring that was created was way too high. I was told it was a medium. The problem is we got an appraisal along with the ring and it was appraised at color e and clarity of si2 and valued at $6975! The ring is gorgeous! but I have been thinking about it and I want maybe the cathedral setting I saw in Zales which I like. But I don't want to ruin the appraised value or lose the diamond he picked for me? Where can I go to have it reset? I yhink I can buy the band plain at zales and have it reset elsewhere. But where can I go to get an honest resetting? I want that diamond not a cheap look alike.

buy the setting itself at zales and take it to a jeweler you trust ... watch it being set yourself. pay attention as it's being set. don't chit chat / easy to get one switched.

When we took my ring to be sized at a local jewelers they did a "map" of the ring. They looked at it under the microscope and made the markings that were in the diamond. It's kind of like the fingerprints of a diamond. You should be able to easily identify your diamond,

Ask people who have expensive jewelry who they would trust. If you happen to live in the Houston area, I've got a name for you.
