Hi, My fiance and I are looking to get married in October of 2012. We would like to stay in Delaware County, PA. We do not have a very large budget, and are hoping to find a venue that either allows outside caterers or one that can accommodate a food budget of around $25 per person. We are open to anything, but would like a unique setting like an old mansion, museum, park, etc. Does anyone have any suggestions? We are expecting to have around 140 to 150 people in attendance.

Also, know of any good caterers in the area that might have a nice menu for about $25 per person? I'd love those suggestions as well! Thank you!

Contact Delaware County Parks and Recreation department for a permit for a public park /gazebo event. There is a small fee, also, events mostly cannot run past sunset and there may be limited availability for electricity and bathrooms, parking etc.

As far as catering, on that budget, all you can do is BBQ (which will go well with a park wedding) Most BBQ caterers include main dish, side dishes, desert, fruit, beverages and all plates, linens, set up and chafing dishes etc starting at $13 each and up

I was at a wedding recently that the favors were home made CDs. They had love songs on them including the couples wedding song. Not sure how legal this is but it's cute. I think my friends might have had them professionally done. Try including photos on the CDs instead if you're worried about the legality of music. Another friend had picture frames. What about giving your friends a copy of your engagement photo or taking another one with a digital camera. I've also seen cute things done where the individual favors make up the centerpiece. Like maybe a ring of candles or small bunches of flowers. That would probably also cut down on the cost because you wouldn't have to pay for both. My sister had homemade candies with quotes tied to them Hope this helps.

Well, we are not from your area, however, I believe I can help with your problem. Our daughter told her dad and myself she was going to get married last Oct after nine years of being with her fiance. Course, we did not take it serious til abt May then we had to rush to find everything needed. Since both of us are on a very tight budget there were many corners cut but not the ambiance of the evening for our daughters wedding. Here is what I suggest: for the venue-call your local Park Department about an enclosed pavillion, our costs were only $186 and we catered our own food. You can fix the food a few days ahead and the hot foods just heat up or make that day if possible. Now start going to any auction, garage sale, ck out the local papers, Craigslist and anywhere else you can visit for finding either gently used or "New" items. Then go to Dollar General for foam plates, cups, glasses-they were cheaper on these items. If you want colored plates etc, start buying them a few at a time til the wedding. This way the costs are held at a minimum and your not hit with huge costs before the wedding. Get plastic tablecloths from anywhere you can find them, some say the rolls of plastic are cheaper but I'm not so sure about that. For your music, try to find a local DJ a band is way to expensive unless you have family or friends to help with this. If you want to decorate the walls as we did, choose fabric stores for a "lining" type fabric over satin, its cheaper and much easier to work with and cost savings are incredible. If you get a Park venue, you probably will be limited on time you're allowed to get in to decorate. Ask anyone you can think of for help-over and above the ones you believe will show up to help-we found this out the hard way. You know, something came up and they couldn't make it. So invite extra people to help just in case. The day of the wedding, have your trays made up early, use cold salads-saves time and lots of money, have them in covered trays also. See if you can get a crew just for serving and making sure the food is presented and maintained. This is an important step to keep your mind at ease. The cake-do some research, see if you can get a talented person who makes cakes to give you a good deal. A bakery seems to be abt one and half to three times more expensive. Overall, her dad and me spent abt $2000 on her wedding including her gown that we ordered from "Lightinthebox.com" One word abt this online ordering-you have to do it now or the dress may get hung up in New York for up to 90 days. Again, the experience we had was mind blowing at times. LOL Lots of fun though. Visit some local shops for inexpensive boutique gifts to give as favors to your wedding parties and guests. A bit of online gift shopping as you can afford it will also save money. Good luck and have a really beautiful wedding! (comment by Helen at sassysboutique.net)
